NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Heel cups and soles I think is the most complex mold that I ever made in my life.If I have a easiest way, im going directly to that option!!!.If you dont make air exit holes in strategic parts of the mold, probably the final piece has a LOT of bubbles on the surface.its important the position of the piece, the enter compound position an direction, ect ect...theres not easiest way in my opinion.

Cloneprops,

I am thinking that you would need air escapes on the peaks of the side parts of the soles with the main entry being higher than the sides. This way the liquid should find its own level.

Did you pressure cast your clear soles? I got so many bubbles in the pour I did that I have invested in a Vacuum Chamber and will soon look at getting a pressure pot before doing this again so I don't waste elastomer.

here's my current template in foam along with the baked heel cup for the left shoe.

only thing left now is to make molds of the left/right heel cups and the little clear led light covers which go onto them.

Just trying to think of the easiest way to make the heel cup mold in silicone in a 2 part mold. since its a curved shape, im thinking of just getting some cardboard and making a curved shape around it. Will save me silicone as i don't want to fill that massive hole inside the heel cup, its just a waste of silicone.

NICE....... hey quick pointer make sure you coat your shell with black couch liner it is real thin plus has pattern marks in liner witch helps that fabric look look more graded like the real ones / use for coat over shell spray with supper 77 then coat shell with liner it becomes a solid shell with no weak points.

Caloss how did you go with your Heel Cup? Did you make a new one or just use the factory one?

Even usin vaacum chamber(im using it after mixing to eliminate air bubbles) you need to examinate what areas of your mold should be more complex and prone to retain air,its a matter of analyzing flow directions an "how to" exit air inside mold.

Im using a program that helps me to find the "complex areas " of the mold and other solution that helped me a lot was to made a dynamic fluid simulation inside 3D model(with viscosity values of the compound(resin, urethane, ect) the program marks and colorize the"bad areas"
SUMMARY:One big entry, various small exits,I hope this help you.!!!!

Yeah, its quite tricky when you pouring in the silicone for molds to get rid of air bubbles. But if you pour it in from a high point so the liquid drips in very thinly, usually you can get rid of the air bubbles.

Most of the rtv silicones available are low viscosity meaning that you don't need to degass them. I followed the tutorials from the youtube "brickintheyard" channel, they are very very useful in planning your molds.

Usually, for a box, they use wood or something made of clear acrylic plastic, but i think any type of cardboard is ok as well, as the silicone is unlikely to penetrate cardboard as its quite a thick goo.

I used some clear acrylic plastic for the mold box, but i could have saved silicone by using cardboard and shaping it around the actual part.

Its a learning process though.

thanks. yes, i think its called "stitch bonded fabric".

the kmag has stitch bonded both in the toe area of the lining and underneath the sole insert stitched.

There's a few local sofa shops near me, so i'm going to ask them what types of materials they have.

That makese sense as the air will rise and might get trapped into any cavity that does not allow the air to escape.

WOW thank you for that tip. I guess I have to trim the part anyway, so having a few small stems (from the exits) will not be an issue.

Anybody hear or see any updates on the V2 K-Mags? I mean we all talked about how they'll possibly be up for sale by the end of August....Well we're half way there. Updates? Pics? Where could order them?

I'm not holding my breath either.

The problem is, even if they did release a version 2 with the lights and a more accurate form i'll still be passing if they do something stupid like using that thumbprint pattern again.

Looking at the pics of the screen-used Mags, I noticed the ankle buckle seems to be made out of foam and then painted/covered with white afterwards. Hmm. I may just look into copying that.

It might be foam, but plastic will last longer :love

Nothing yet and I don't expect anything either :rolleyes

Yeah i'm not expecting anything either. Just thought I'd ask and see if there was any updates. Especially since whatever "website" and person these people are talking to, are so under wraps that nobody wants to say what website/company they've been in contact with.

Exactly. This will never happen with one person speaking on behalf of the world wide fan base. The website and email should have been given out so the world wide fan base can annoy the hell out of them and they would then get the idea that is really wanted and not just one person's personal dream.

Tooling for a project like this costs allot, so the company undertaking such a project needs to know that there will be a positive return on the investment. Keeping it all hush hush so the one person with the contacts can feel like a hero if it ever happens is probably doing more harm than good. rant over.

One word reply: "AGREED!":thumbsup

Its never coming, I called them a few minutes ago, they said no. :lol I cant say who I called or give out the number though

As if they were any way. NIKE would have lock down on the design patent so tight that no company (even one in China) would be game to copy it and why the K-MAG is a copy of the MP shoe and not the actual 2011 MAG.

A bit blue. I'll probably go a little clearer than this. I'm pretty happy with the waffle pattern. Should look great with some el or leds.
