NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Tinker Hatfield himself devised this shoe. I think it's Tinker making the bet that he can design crap. Apparently, there is a neon volt colored shoe under all that black.

Yeah just look at those Yezzys. Pass me a bucket :sick

Hello guys :D I'm Emma!

I was wondering, do you know if it's possible to tint markpoon replicas? I kinda would like them to be black. I actually have 2 versions of his :)
But I would like to keep the white bits, so basically just tint the grey in black and eventually the yellow sole in black too, any idea how to do it? just want to be sure to not mess the shoes up XD

Emma, you can buy special fabric paint. Costs a bit more, but it won't crack and you would simply tape up the parts (ie the cuff) that you don't want painted.

He designed the Air Mags though. One hit wonder?

He would have designed the AIR PRESSURE too. I used to like mine and wish if they going to bring back blasts from the past, that they re-release this shoe.

I don't care what they say about Tinker....he's a hack!....LOL

:LOL2

Well, technically, he didn't design them. They design was there in the 80's and he just implemented it.

And I'm sure he had nothing to do with the electronics.

I've never seen another pair of shoes from any company with the same construction. Lots of shoes/boots have a clean toe, but none I have seen have the side and toe as a single piece.

But if those were not in the movie, do you think we would still be in love with them?

I think it was the shoes in that film that actually kicked the whole hi-top craze into high gear. I was already wearing NIKE hi-tops when the film came out, but was driven to find the "grail" of hi-top after the film and have been seeking that for 23 years now. Yeah, I do thing things seen in a film can and do have an influence on fashion. After COMMANDO in 1985, everyone started wearing army styled pants (AKA cargo pants). Coincidence? I think not.

Yeah. I believe the Mags and the Jordan IIIs is what made him what he is.

Your probably right about that.

My favourite Nike that I ever owned was the Nike Air Commander. I believe it was a shoe for David Robinson. It was cool because they were high high tops with a pump. I wish they re-release those.

The blue and white moon boot?

AIR Pressure was a slimmer version and also had a pump and looked closer to the MAG than anything else NIKE has ever released. Probably why I was prepared to shell out $350 for a pair. As it turned out, the Footlocker store where I bought mine had a sale where everything with an air bladder was reduced to just under $200. So I got my listed $350 shoes for $199.00. I was pretty happy about that.

As per TheNickFox's advice... I attempted to do a 3d scan of my MAG shoes.
He suggested I try Autodesk's cloud processing capture app called 123D Catch.
After many attempts I finally got something worth sharing.

It's still not optimal. I plan to try another attempt this week with better captures of the undercuts and the inside of the shoe. I'll also try to get the bottom of the shoe and see if I can stitch the models together.

I'm bumping this up, so it doesn't get missed in all of the random ramblings that happen in this thread and quickly move us to a new page. This sort of model is a HUGE leap forward towards making perfect replicas.

I'll do another pass tonight with your suggestions and I think it's time to branch it to it's own thread. :)

With the amount of reference you've generated, I think it's fair to say your Mags are THE most well documented Mags out there. So definitely worthy of their own thread.

What's cool is that all this reference, we could get to a point where Mag owners, like you, could buy a perfect replica to wear around, and leave their real pair mint.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the next pass you do. Hopefully you'll be able to kill those undercuts.

WOW! I wasn't able to get this to work before, but did now, and I'm blown away!!!! What kind of toy do you need to make something like that?

BTW, if you move it to where you're looking at the shoe from underneath, and then move it slightly, it has that weird effect like the scan of a human face, where it looks like it's coming outwards even when looking at the backside. Anyone else see that? :)

This has been a huge help. There is like almost no pictures of the side without the lights and now I can see it from any angle I want. THANK YOU.
