New Voyagers Omni

I see what you are talking about on the century dial. Ill fix that I just need to use a different font that places digits closer together.

One thing that I always wondered about was the dial engravings. Other than the V, I can't see any evidence in any photo that the numbers and letters are actually engraved. To me it looks like they are silk screened on.

Yeah Rob, you would know better than me on that one. The first Omni you did the dials were engraved right? You can do silkscreen for one of the new omnis and compare the look of the real one versus yours and see which matches up to the screen used dials/numbers. Like as a test to compare and contrast before making the final product.

Looking better with each post. I say go with engraved. If the real prop was silk screened, then this is one of those times where I want idealized over actualized!

Im going to do it both ways. The initial shapeways print check on the year dial (which has the smallest engravings) passed the thin walls computer check. So Ill make an engraved one for sure as long as it can be printed. Then there is the next option of photo engraving with acid, and finally the silk screen printing option. It could also be negatively laser print transferred for a secondary printing option.

Rob will we be able to see which process matches up to the real thing in the photos? This way for those who want the actualize version can have it??

Just saw the first hint of prices also. The year dial on polished brass is about $45. I can't price out all the parts yet, because I have not applied the shell command yet. But the dials are already at minimum size, so that gives an idea where the price point is heading.

Yes, I will do my best to do a sample of each method so people can choose one or the other or multiple.

Thanks Rob!! Thats great this way we will know for sure which method was used on the actual omni props in the series. :)

It seems like yesterday when we were hammering out the details on my first omni on the voyagers HQ board

I know, right? It all snaps into perspective when you look at the how your skills and the technology have progressed though!

I know, back then 3d printing was a joke, and CNC machining at home was impossible unless you had $50k. Now it is all becoming so accessible

Funny has anyone ever notice at the beginning of the last episode "Jacks Back", the omni red light is steady is does not blink. LOL

Fixed the distance between the numbers on the Century dial. Adjusted the spacing between all dial engravings when lined up. Placed rivets on base and dial assist locations. Also added a little color.

Hey Rob it really does look amazing!! A couple of things I noticed was when looking at the omni in the intro to Voyagers. It appears that the rivet after Dec should be a little closer to the C perhaps?? Also the numbers look excellent but if you can maybe take a look at the months I believe the letters should also be closer together now?? Just let me know. Thanks! :)
