New Star Trek TOS Phaser coming November 2014

No, I also got mine from TG in a box. This was shipped soon after the item became available. Original packaging was intact. Either different distribution centers or inconsistent practices.

My order from TG came in a box as well with a couple of those air pillows in the box . I paid for the DHL shipping to Canada .

we have our 1st emitter breakage.................... did you overtighten it in the in or out position and now it stops moving,, did you feel a snap or pop ?

same problem with the MR phasers

So, less than 24 hours in and my emitter just stopped working. No tension, clicks, pops or anything, but rotating the muzzle ring doesn't do anything any longer. I can still pull the outer emitter nozzle out a bit by hand, but it won't extend as far as the other one I have that still works.

Not sure if I should contact TG or TWC about a replacement but I don't want to keep a broken phaser.

Hello all! I've been following this thread since the beginning and I must say this is the quickest I've seen any company produce a product from concept to final product to shipping!!!

I have to agree: this is almost my favorite thing about the phaser. If it were any other company, this would have been dragged out for two or three years.

•"We're so excited to announce our new license!!! We'll have an announcement on our first release soon!"
•Nine months later, photos are released of a screen-used piece that may or may not look anything like the final product.
•A year later, "We're very close. We hope to have something to show at San Diego Comic Con!! Stay tuned!"
•By New York Toy Fair, pre-orders may be up.
•Six months after that, "We're still fine tuning details with our factory, but it's so going to be worth the wait!"
•Another seven months, "Our manufacturer will be closed for the Lunar New Year holiday for two weeks. This will translate to a
four month delay. Somehow."

I really wish The Wand Company's plan were more the industry standard. Just, "By the way, we've spent the last year developing a phaser. We really like how it's looking. We're going to start building them in a few weeks, and they'll be here by the end of the year. Wand Company out."

of the 2 I got from ST.COM 1 has a very tight emitter and the other works just fine. You must understand that anything mass produced in China will have defective units sent out anyway, say 1 to 20 out of 100 may be bad, they will sneak in the bad 1s here and there to alleviate production losses.

a warranty is a warranty , call them up and get a RMA , send it back and get a good 1,, also see if you can get them to pay return shipping to them.

Why is this also a remote control? Is it to avoid some kind of licensing trouble?

The Wand Company makes electronic devices. This was always licensed as a universal remote in the shape of a TOS phaser. Just so happens they went above and beyond when creating the remote to make it as close as possible to the actual prop.

I wish more companies would take the time to do things right like TWC. I for one am looking forward to see what they offer next.

I ordered two from the Geek, so I did get a shipping box...

...but one that had NO padding of any kind. Zilch. Since there was about 3" of empty space, those puppies slid and clonked around in there all the way to me. No damage, fortunately.

And the product's awesome. :)

I extended my emitter and I'm leaving it right there. One other thing I noticed, the more I remove and replace the dilithium crystal door, the looser it gets and rattles. I have to give it a little extra force to keep it tight. That's also probably something I won't mess with except to show that feature off to friends.

I'm thinking I'll be doing the same, Jim, and not messing with the emitter. Mine was retracted slightly when I took it out of the case today, so I just slowly turned it until I felt it stop and the emitter was all the way out, and then tried it to make sure it fit in the case that way, and haven't messed with it since. Everything looked good, except my P1 has some small scrapes on the satin finish on the left top side of the metal trim, leaving three bright shining spots. Plus, the bad thing is on the left center side, above the center metal side trim has what almost looks like a smeared paint dob on it. I tried carefully wiping it with a little thinner but it didn't touch it. I don't want to mess too much with it and then if I try to send it back to ST.com for a replacement, they say no because I did mess with it. Anyone else have anything like this on the P1?

We discussed that earlier -- the main reason is some countries don't allow imports of replica weapons, so it's officially a remote control.

Granted from a legal perspective yes, licensing a Phaser prop replica as a Remote Control does make things easier for sales in some countries and allows them to purse this project while others hold the license on prop replicas. However, the company is called The Wand Co because they got their start making replica wands that are also remote controls. Seems to make more sense in this case that they're just expanding their reach into new markets. IF this were a new company with no precedent set for producing wands that act as remote controls it might make sense that they decided to spend the time engineering the gestures and software just so they could ship to a few additional countries and not have to label their product as a 'replica weapon.'

Remember, the market for casual fans is much larger than the niche uber-accurate prop replica market. A phaser that can control your TV is precisely the type of product with the potential for sales to justify the economies of scale required to bring such a nice item in at such a low cost.

Can't wait until mine arrives!

My explanation's more fun. :p

I haven't had a chance to read through the instructions yet (I just got back yesterday from the Thanksgiving holiday and the package was waiting for me) so I don't know if it by chance mentions it in there, but I noticed that if I took out my P1 phaser from the P2, fired it a few times on whatever setting it was on, and then when I put it back in to the P2 cradle, you'd fire it with the trigger and the P1 emitter lit up but not the P2 emitter. I'd have to shut down the power and then turn it on again to make it work properly. I'll have to read it tonight to see if it says it has to be reset once taken out of the P2.

Plus, is the center emitter on the P2 supposed to be loose, due to the outer section being able to move in and out? I noticed mine isn't attached and you'll notice with the emitter is all the way out at the fullest point that the center emitter can flop from side to side a bit. Not a big deal since it only moves a small amount from side to side, unless it IS supposed to be attached and sit solidly. :lol

Center emitter on the P2 should not be loose. Regarding the issue you described of the P2 emitter not firing, I had that happen to me last night for first time.

Happned to me as well.

Had to reseat the phaser 1.

It was acting really wonky last night

Mine did that once. I thought it was possibly the pins not being aligned, but I had to power down and back up and it started working properly again. It hasn't done it again since then.

I also had something similar happen with mine. Turned the knob to position 3 and the light was green not blue, and emitted from the P1. Reseated and it went away and did not come back.

I had another odd experience too. I took the phaser through each setting 0 - 9 and then went straight back to 0. When I pulled the trigger, instead of getting the "click" sound, I got what sounded like the bridge communicator or some other random bridge sound. I turned the knob away from 0 and it went away. I tried recreating it but couldnt.
