New from San Diego

Hi Folks, I'm a prop and poster collector in San Diego. I personally have a fave movie "Hellraiser". I purchased a box one day froma lame box maker and when I recieved it 6 months later it was already falling apart. I then promised that no one should have to buy a POS ever again and started making my own Hellraiser Puzzleboxes. I'm not trying to sell my wares yet, but I am just saying who I am. I've since gotten into collecting props and high quality replicas from certain movies and genres. I also collect signed posters and other things. Glad the rpf is back online and going strong.

New to forum / New to Prop Building

Hey everyone! New to the forum and new to prop/costume building.

2 months ago I decided I was going to throw the epic Star Wars party I always wanted. My whole house will be themed different SW landscapes (i.e. Hoth, Tatooine, Dagobah...). I have a larger living room that i'm going to try to make into the Cantina from Ep 4. At the end of the evening, we'll watch Ep. 4 on a projector in the back yard.

I started off small and built a full lightsaber with LED string in polycarbonite tubing. Came out really good considering it was my first build, EVER! That was a boost of confidence.

After scouring -www.instructables.com on costumes, I came across a guy who made a full scale R2D2 out of cardboard and ingenuity. I thought,.. i could totally do that. How hard could it be. :wackoI have since joinced astromechs and R2Builders and after seeing an amazing foam build (from familyman on this site), I started my R2 this weekend.

I have 2 and a half months to build R2, make my costume, my wife's costume and come up with ideas on totally redecorating my house as Star Wars theme.:facepalm

I already have a binder full of my ideas and sketches. Also, besides my wife I have another couple who is totally down to help. My buddy is starting his Boba Fett costume complete with working Flame Thrower and Potato Canon Rocket. Not sure about the flame thrower with there being kids around, but he said its just for him.

I have been taking pictures of everything, so maybe I'll start a thread with the countdown to my Star Wars party. :love

Thanks for reading, and hope I get to know some of you soon!

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all. Thought I would introduce myself since I've been lurking awhile.

And now that it's summer I have a few weeks before I go TDY for a month in order to tackle a few projects. I'll be making an Iron Man Mk6 suit and a War Machine suit. Hopefully, I'll get them done before I leave, if not by mid august.

I've previously made a Predator 2 costume from latex and that was a hassle but turned out pretty good for my first costume.

I'll post up photos of my IM builds once I'm done or halfway done.

Cheers

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all
I found out about this site through a friend. I have been working on an ironman suit since about April, so far I have finished the helmet build and I'm hoping to get some tips on the repulsers as I have bought the toy ones and am hoping to take them apart for their components. I'm new to the props building community as I only rediscovered my talent for making things in September of last year when I decided to make a costume from scratch.

I look forward to talking with you all and picking up techniques along the way =)

Hi All,

Been looking things up on here for a little while & thought it was probably time to join.

arrived here via a renewed interest in Star Wars & specifically lightsabers, bought a cheap one from eBay back at the beginning of March & now here I am in May with 15 of them including 2 original Graflex.

hoping it's not the start of an obsession!

looking forward to getting involved here

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey guys!

I'm new here, just found out about these forums. I've done some work making swords from series like Fate/Stay Night, but I feel I need to watch and learn from others and this place feels like the right place to do it. So far it's incredible, and I've learned a lot.

So, lets hope for the best!

Hi all Noob here.

Just thought I'd say hi, started a paper pep iron man helm, then switched to foam and completed the attached in 7 hours, i think it looks pretty good, i never thought i could do it.

it came out a size too small and doesn't fit :(

i really want to make a perfect one like some on here but... hmm.

Thanx

Hi everybody,

My name is Sam and I am pretty new to costume making. I have been reading some stuff on here as well as on the 405th and have been working on a Halo suit for my son. So far, I have seen a lot of great work and am truly amazed with the creativity and craftsmanship of the work that has been posted. I hope to learn a lot from you all, and if I have time, I hope to put what I learn to good use.

Hi guys!
I am super excited to join the forum and can't wait to really dive into all the amazing replicas. Hope to post something soon.

Howdy, name's Richard, from Kansas City, and I'm really new to the prop thing(Like, I have sketches but no real time or money to actualize them), figured I could scour the area and get pointers and the such.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

hey everyone,

i just wanted to stop by and introduce myself... I found this fourm while i was looking up builds for pip boy 3000s and any fallout props... I'm a huge fallout fan and hope to build some stuff soon :)

Hello everyone. Just stopping by to say hello. I stumbled across this forum at the advice of a friend who does costumes for a living and (in her own words) is a kind of a big deal in the costume cosplay community. My interests include marvel/dc, doctor who, torchwood, and...uhh...well I guess that's it. I'm gonna start work on a War Machine suit in the very near future, once my life has some more free time.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi Guys and Gals,

Love the work you all do here. Looking for a project to start. But keen to stick to one thing. Love Doctor Who, and have a big game collection. So might look for something Nintendo 16 bit ish or I did just read a PipBoy post that was great. So maybe something like this. First I need to sit and listen, soak up the knowledge.

Be nice. :D

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all,

Two weeks ago I saw a YouTube clip of a guy in an amazing Iron Man costume that he had built himself. After a quick search I found Stealth's tutorials and decided to start my own build. Further research as led me to here and I am excited to be part of such a community. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge, skills, ideas and resources. Naturally I plan to post my updates as soon as I am far enough along. Thanks again.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey guys, my name is Caleb and I found out this website from theleagueofheroes @ yuku. The props and sculpts you guys do is awesome! A few things about me:
- I'm from California
- I'm huge fan of Star Wars, Marvel & DC Comics, Tron, and Back To The Future
- I got into making replica movie props after my dad made a Jango Fett jet pack for men when I was in 2nd grade from a cardboard box and some foam cups haha

My friend makes props from pepakura files, I'd like to get into using that as well as vacuforming and using eva foam.
I want to make my own version of Jason Todd's Red Hood costume based from (Red Hood & the Outlaws and Batman: Under The Red Hood) and a WWII Captain America costume and shield from the recent movie that came out. If you guys could also help me on how to make the Red Hood helmet and Captain America WWII Shield, it would be greatful!

Thanks! :thumbsup
