Hello everyone,
I've been interested in making my own replica movie props for a few years now but finally decided to give it a real go. I was pointed towards this forum by Adam Savage's Tested.
My background is in the fabrication and welding of steels and aluminium (Al-U-min-i-um yes I'm british hahaha) but it looks like my initial props are going to be made from anything but metal... how can that possibly go wrong?
I'm new so very willing to soak up any knowledge anyone is willing to offer and will of course do my best to offer the same in return.
My first project will be a replica Kylo Ren helmet and if that goes well the rest of the outfit.
Hope you're all having a great day

Hello everyone.

My name is James and have been a film and prop fan for some time. Being a fairly broke college student I have not been able to afford to create the props I have wanted, but since I will be graduating soon I hope to begin working to create them. I have fallowed a few post on the rpf or by members, but to this point have never joined. Watching tested and seeing the props and different creation they have made over the years have pushed me to join. I have nearly zero prop building experiences and have joined to learn to processes and tools of the trade. As my account name suggest I have a deep passion for cars and racing, that being said most of my collecting has been racing related. When it comes to film, I love science fiction, dystopian, and of course Star Wars. I have always loved the mechanical nature of science fiction art. Cosplay id also something that I am very interested in mainly oriented around Star Wars and a few other characters from other series here and there. To wrap up now that I rambled, I hope to find friendly members who are willing to help an amateur create quality prop replicas that I have always dreamed of creating.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.
James

Hey all, bacterium here. I actually have yet to finish any replicas. Hoping signing up here will help me finish at least one. Currently I am working on 3 different projects, all with different mediums. Just basic stuff. A BOS helmet from Fallout 3 (second try), still working on the Pepakura base. A 3d printed Pipboy 3000, which I may add element from Fallout 4 to. I am terrible at smoothing 3d prints. And Rey's staff from found parts.
First order is finish the helmet. And eventually I would like to assemble a Fallout/wasteland style costume. Not strictly one faction or anything. Not even just one fandom. I'd like to add some wingsticks from Rage and what not. But, enough rambling.

Hi, I'm Sean. I'm building a first order blaster and I was wondering where I could look to find information on making a sound board to make the blaster sound when I pull the trigger. Thanks

hey everyone! hope to make some great new friends and make some awesome props here!

I've known about the RPF for a long time, and have used it for ideas, but I've never really felt cool enough to join. I've been making costumes and props for some time, but nothing as advanced as what I see here on a daily basis.

I'm a member of the Rebel Legion with a Luke Skywalker ROTJ costume, and am now starting on C-3PO build. I've been gathering parts, and last year did the head and feet for a test:

I'm not sure if I should start a topic for it, as the updates will be pretty slow, but I'd love to get feedback and help if I can. I'm using Gordon Tarpley's posts/videos/blogs as a guide, and putting my whole process up on YouTube to help anyone who might want to follow in my footsteps, and help me remember what I did.

Great to be here, please be nice!

Hi,
Just joined and thanks for the welcome.
I'm a former engineer and now do something quite different, getting back into the making/mending of things as a therapy for myself.
I built a small flux-capacitor and I'm making the first of many ray guns, inspired by Ryan Nagata and the like.

Hi friends,

My name is Antoine and I live in France. I am 52 and started by reading comic-books, watching sci-fi and TV series and collections toys, statues and sci-fi guns. I created the 1st French fanzine about Marvel comic-books (GALADOR) in 1980, an age where it was a shame to read those....time changed hopefully, they aside from my job, I created a toys show in Paris (PJC) and a manga show in Paris (PARIS MANGA). I then founded a webstore for 8 years importing all kind of great collectibles from Japan, HK and the USA. Now, I am mostly collecting Super-Heroes statues, life-size busts and sci-fi guns replicas. A few months agos, I started collecting 12 inches figures from Hot Toys, Sideshow, etc...and I am also doing some kitbashing.
My 2 main projects are :
- creating a 12 inches articulated figure of Rico from Starship Troopers and I don't have anything, so I need advices ! I have Morita gun from a Galoob action figures which is about half the size I need for a 12 inches. So I thought about having a friend of mine from Czech Republic scanning it in 3D and then printing in at the right size. But there would be no moving parts on my gun, so is that a good idea ? Please let me know what you think, I don't really know how to start. I also need the ankshelmet from the movie.
- I want to buy a DREDD 3D lawgiver replica, preferably with screen, lights and sounds, and can't find a decent one although I spend a lot of time on Judge Dredd groups on FB.
Thank you for your helps. I will post some pics of my collection.

Hi guys,

Tristan here from South Wales in the U.K. I've been a member here for many many years, but an in active one.
Now it's time for me to re-build my Vader costume from back in the day.

I'm mainly into Star Wars, the OT, but have started a Kylo Ren build within the past few weeks too.

Here's some pics from an event I did a number of years ago when I was Vader.

Sup guys,
I have skulked around here for a long time but just recently made an account. I really enjoy the process of seeing folks create their props and am amazed by the attention to detail. I would love to create some of my own but I'm a bit of a stickler for detail on my own crafts and I lack the facilities or time to do so.

As of late I have become obsessed with getting a Hal 9000 panel for my art studio. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can purchase or commissioned one? I am not looking for anything that is totally screen accurate just something that might look cool on a wall with a good build quality.

Anyway can't wait to see all the amazing things you guys are creating.

Hello new to this forum. I am looking for people who could make some simple move props. How do I find people as I have read all the FAQ but still lost a little. My email is on my profile. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Tonk'peh! Hello everyone!
I'm Brod, I live in the UK, and am completely new to costuming and prop making due to certain lack of money... My main interest will be in Star Trek costumes and props, in particular TOS and alternate universe, but I'm sure many other things will take my fancy...

Hello everyone!

I just joined, and have barely scratched the surface of the things going on here, am looking forward to browsing through all the topics on everyone's projects.

I only recently got interested in props and costumes, and am hoping to have a TOS Star Trek costume for Comicon London this year, so will be looking through everything for ideas on how to make it happen. I have a set of Diamond Select toys (although the phaser is in terrible shape), hopefully a red shirt soon, and am scouring second hand shops for trousers and boots. Eventually I want to make my own shirt from scratch.

(Red shirt because I'm Scottish and an electrical engineer in real life, and probably chose it as a career because of Scotty!)

See you all around on the forums!

Heyo, I'm finally making a profile. I've been lurking here for a long time, because it's such a great resource, but it's always seemed a bit next level for the likes of me, so I haven't really had anything to contribute to the discussion. I'm starting work on a new costume, though, and I (for once) didn't see a thread already devoted to it, so I figured I may as well finally make a login and share my progress. :)

So I guess it's time to introduce myself.
My name is Rod, I'm from Canada, near Toronto.
Back in the mid 90's I was very active in the rec.arts.starwars.* usenet forums and while I was a student with only enough budget to do cusomized action figures, I really wanted to build props. I wanted a graphlex lightsabre and a custom set of stormtrooper armour, I drooled over the Don Post prop replicas etc. Now i'm a bit older and I have started getting into making things again now that I have the space, the tools and a little bit more money to put into these things.
I joined the R2 builder's club earlier this year, but put my R2 on hold for a little bit with only a few small 3D printed parts made so far, while I turned my attention to building a small CNC router to help with that and other projects, and started work on my Tardis garden shed. I had wanted a Tardis for a while, I have room for one in my yard, and a need for a shed, so it only seemed appropriate that instead of spending hundreds on a kit to build a shed like every other shed I'd put that money into a replica police box. :)
I think I'm driving my dear wife crazy with little electronics parts coming in the mail every week from China for gadgets around the house and eventually for R2, but I know she loves me because she doesn't complain and she smiles a lot when I show her something I've been working on, even if it maybe doesn't make as much sense to her.
I've known about the existence of this forum for a long time, but never felt compelled to join until recently when i noticed it being mentioned in the R2 community and of course Adam Savage mentioned it in almost every episode of his podcast, which I've been listening to a lot lately. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi to you all and let you know a little bit about me.

'Allo!

I'm coming here from Tested, where y'all get a ton of shoutouts. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to props and costumes, but I have some big ambitions. I've always gone to conventions, and I have friends who are cosplayers, but going to Comic-Con this year and meeting with other Tested/RPF members has given me an itch to build armor. I would LOVE to put together a modular Iron Man armor that I can upgrade bit by bit (e.g. starting with foam core plates, up to plastic, to metal, adding lights, electronics, etc.). But I don't quite know where to start. I also have a bit of a space problem in that I live in a fairly cramped studio, so I'd love some tips on how to find a nice workspace I can possibly rent by the hour or something.

Cheers!

Hey everyone! Thank you for having this awesome community here. I have been a casual observer and erstwhile lurker for years, maybe going on a decade, and finally made the jump to join. My primary focus is 1:1 replica cars (Hero Cars, Star Cars, Hollywood Hotrods, whatever term you like), but I also dabble in the Props that make them complete, costumes appropriate to the cars, and other items in the universe they are derived from. Grew up on Knightrider, Batman reruns, Dukes of Hazzard, and tons of those 'car' shows (don't get me started), along with other stuff like Greatest American Hero, Automan, Kroft shows etc...... but then I saw Mad Max and The Roadwarrior and all bets were off. Now with awesome fortune Mad Max is a big slice of my life's work. I came to a company called Mad Max Cars as a client wanting to build a car. The running office gag is they haven't been able to get rid of me since. I also produce what is presumably the longest running annual multi genre Star Car show on the planet..... the "Star Car Concurs Classic" in Tacoma WA, which is about to hit is 10th annual event at the end of August. All that said I have a really wide variety of interests in the entertainment world including performing in costume and prop centric Heavy Metal band that still lives, heyday from the 80's in Seattle (think Kiss and Alice Cooper meet GWAR but with an Environmental message). One last tidbit for now.... If any of you builders are into the 1981 George A. Romero film "Knightriders" I really want to know what you are building. See you all around the forum!
