Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everybody! My name is Adam. Glad to be here at the RPF. Been a long time prop builder having built lightsabers when I was in high school. Since then I got the Ghostbusters bug and have built numerous Proton Packs, traps and a Slimeblower. I really enjoy figuring out and creating props and can't wait to utilize the resources of this forum! So again really happy to be here and look for some build threads soon!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, I've been a cosplay prop maker for LaughingReaper.com a number of years now. I specialized in military and sci-fi props ( Guns, armor, military hardware, etc.) and I'm now branching off into motorized props such as the collapsing guns used in the Mass Effect game series. I specialize in plastic casting, fiberglass and thermo-mold plastics. I look forward posting up some of my projects and getting some feedback from this outstanding community.

Greetings;

A techie with w sidelining hobby of recombining ideas and things.
Or tributes to them.
Usuallt a bit quirky, Often in the category of 'TARDIS control accessoy" or recombinations
of the odd supply of aircraft interior parts.
swm_working.jpg

This started with a junked tv a copter eng console and matching the shape.
Getting the control panel right is one of my gosls for picking you folks braains..

Another thing I try to do is integrate some function into a prop replica or original.
Even if it's just a led that lites up if a button is pressed, that sort of thing.

On another tangent is the repkipation of this little number:
*have car. Conveniently sans rear seat.

Although the trick would be to replicate the boxes they used in foam
because really dont want switch implants in an accident.
And yeah just effects, no plan for propuslion system other than simulation.

But that's a topic for another thread..

Hi everybody!
I am amazed and humbled by the efforts, talent and dedication that you guys demonstrate with your props displayed here on the forum.
I found TheRPF while looking for a Pazuzu Head replica, you know, that hideous creepy thing found by father Merrill at the beginning of the movie
The Exorcist.... well, I then decided to register and before I realized it I got lost in dozens of threads before I remembered to introduce myself to the community :facepalm

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Thought I'd say hi, my names Darren and I live in the uk, I've been modding nerf guns for a little while now and thought I'd move on to bigger things, so with the release of dredd 3d I've been inspired to make an urban dredd costume or more possibly an urban inspired Brit cit judges costume.
I'm here to share ideas and check out the awesome work of everyone else on here :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Winter and I'm a prop-a-holic. :lol I'm a huge Star Wars nerd (who isn't) but I also love BSG, Firefly, B5, ST and all the rest. I'm pretty new to prop making and I have enjoyed some small success so far in a few projects. Nothing monumental, but I am getting the hang of things. Feel free to check out my Flickr photostream to see some of the stuff I have been working. Tips, tricks or critiques are always welcome.

I have a pretty decent foundation in soft goods that I learned from my grandfather who was a Master Tailor for 65 years. And I am teaching myself molding and casting. The community here has been a great wealth of knowledge that has helped immensely and I figured it was high time I jumped in and participated instead of just lurking. I look forward to talking with everyone and learning from the pros here and maybe even helping out some people that need it if I can.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi,

I found this site a couple months back while looking for techniques for an arkham city riddler build for the dark knight rises premier. I've had an account for a while but never posted any of my builds(mine can't even begin to compare to the stuff on here). It is my goal to start a thread where I showcase a speed build of a prop that I do every week, these props will be based on stuff from tv, movies, books or (on a rare basis) stuff from my own mind that I thought would fit in here. Stay tuned!

New member here!

I've known about this forum for sometime now but was always afraid to visit because I knew I would get sucked in... and I have. It's going to take me sometime to catch up on all the amazing artistry and skill you guys have but looking forward to scouring the posts and adding new additions to my prop collection when I can.

Cheers

Hey Guys!

Been a long time follower of the RPF and finally decided to join and become more active.

Background - Robotics Engineer, have been dabbling with costumes and props for a few years now (for Halloween - not very popular in Australia until recently).

I notice a lot of you guys have a few issues with electronics and servos/mechanics, which I can help with.

Im looking at next years halloween costume, and want to give it a decent crack, so I hope you guys can help me out with any questions I may have.

Cheers,
Eddie

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone
My name is Juan and I love to use my extra time making costumes and masks. The problem alway being trying to find the time in my creations.
I have created from papakura to foam costumes, and at the moment I have been doing a lot of el wire masks.
Here is a photo of the first costume I put together for a party. It was my first experiment with el wire so it is not the greates but it was very fun.

The neck had a voice activated equilizer, for the photo I was just making sound so it would max out.

Sense Papakura tends to take a lot of time and chemicals, I now use foam and make creations at a quicker, lighter, and faster speed. I am working on a whole body get up, but here are some photos of masks I have made:

I am not trying to make helmets out of the same material sense they are so flexible and light weight as well as rigid and durable.

Thanks everyone for letting me inntroduce myself and I look forward to eveyones forums and creations of great ideas and art work.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all! I'm Eric, from Minneapolis, MN and looking to build my own Iron Man armor for next years Halloween. I'm a member of the 501st, with FX ROTJ armor, and looking to add to my armor collection. I'm undecided as to foam vs fiberglass resin builds, and would love to hear/read +/- comparisons on each. I am also undecided on actual armor version, tho I think it's between Mk3 and Mk7. So there ya go, I guess. Thanks for letting me in :)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

My name's Alex. I'm new to therpf. More info about me is on my profile. But the thing that really interests me is movie making. Actually, prop making. I love movies and try to be a buff about it, every piece of it, but I love props. If I had George Lucas' money I would by a gigantic house and fill it with movie props.. Horror movie props from all the slasher films, ultrasabers and other light-sabers, Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, and tons of superhero costumes and gadgets.

Which is what leads me to hear. I've had this dream since I was a child. I did my best then, but I couldn't work a real job then and make real money to fund my little creations. Now I'm an adult. Though I'm young, I have children, so I spend alot of time at home. I want them to be creative as I am, if they choose to be. But I know a good way to get them in the direction. Me learning the ins and outs of making the movie suits. If someone could lead me in the right direction, that would be awesome. For now, talking through emails or on here with someone who has had more experience than me in this would be great. I don't have much experience in this at all actually, but I'm quite capable of learning anything I want to.

So please help me someone. Some things I would be interested in making would be, of course a Spider-Man suit; would freaking LOVE one, Star Wars robes; Sith and Jedi. I've always been a huge fan of Megaman and would love to build my oldest son a suit within the next few years while he's still small enough to look like Megaman. I'd also really be interested in MK suits from the first movie, mainly the ninja warriors. And also things like prop weapon design and weathering clothing for slasher movie characters. Maybe one day making latex masks or something.

I'm very meticulous by nature and expect my 'creations' to be as detailed as my mind perceives them. I'm not now or have ever been okay with the stuff you buy at the store. I want DETAILS and REAL information. My main goal is to be able to do this one day for some sort of living. I'd like to even 'waste my money' on schooling myself through this eventually and make my own character suit designs one day out of my own mind, as I also enjoy thinking and drawing characters in my mind from scratch.

For now I think my first realistic goal I'd like is to be able to make is the new suit from the Amazing Spider-Man movie. So if I could have some ideas on how to go about doing that, that would be great. Thanks for reading my little introduction to this forum. Sorry it was so long. I'm just detailed, and serious about learning this fine craft.

-Alex
