re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone! I joined today because I've been secretly admiring this forum for ages and I thought that I'd join now that I'm actually going to make a prop. As a die hard HP-fan, I'm making myself a copy of the Daily Prophet. It's going to be quite the task...

I've posted my first attempt at a front page in the Daily Prophet thread if anyone wants to see it.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone. Here's my obligatory intro where I state that I am a long time lurker/reader and recent member.

I am an Irish bagpipe maker (Uilleann pipes...pronounced ILL - EN ...rhymes with chillin.. NOT pronounced youleean!)

I've always been a tinkerer, inventor, gadget / thing maker. Did some model making as a kid. Rediscovering it as a bigger kid. I was a musician / actor at the MN RenFest for 11 years and have been an avid historical reenactor for longer. As such I have done a GREAT deal of costuming. Oddly enough, I'm excellent at making stays for women.... Tedious work that has it's own inherent rewards! (heh!)

As a pipemaker I do a lot of woodworking, wood turning, leather work, and metal work as well as make 95% of my own tools and jigs.

I made a kids Fett helmet and armor when I redecorated a room as a star wars room. Doors were painted like blast doors, with warning signs etc. there is a control panel as well. Made some blasters and lightsabers, and various swords and shields. I've made a wooden sword / copy of riptide from percy jackson.

I recently pep'd a ironman helmet, a battle droid head, a fett helmet and a rocketeer helmet. NONE of which I've fiberglassed yet!

I also have a clear astro mech droid dome that is in progress.

I've got a bazillion ideas, not enough time or money or experience. I'm hoping to gain the knowledge and experience (and help) here. I have been VERY impressed by the range of artistic skills a nd abilities presented by the members of this board!

As a woodworker (specifically a wood TURNER) I'm happy to help anyone with their projects in trade for help with mine. If you need a detailed or non-detailed part turned drop me a note. I've helped make fett rockets and other such items before from pvc, wood and even some metal.

Thanks!
Dave

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I'm new here and I must say that the people here are awesome. A little about myself. My name is Chris Doohan (my dad was Scotty on Star Trek) and I've been a collector of movie props for many years. It was only within the last few years that I decided to start selling props. I don't have quite the collection of props that I see some people have on this site (jealous), but I do have a few cherished items that I will be sharing with you in the future.

So, feel free to browse the props that I have for sale at www.thetransporterroom.com and feel free to email me .

Thanks, Chris

Uh, hi, I'm Azy.

I don't really have much to say about myself; most of my experience is in costuming (~10 years, unless you count Halloween costumes when I was a kid...), with only limited prop-making, and that mostly for specific costume-related pieces, sigh.

My goal this year is to actually make someone else go "Wow, that's cool! :D" with something I make.

Very nice to meet you all!

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey guys!

My name's Sarah. I'm from Australia, and I'm an active member of the 501st.

I've been a costumer for many years (long before I heard of the 501st), and have been sewing since a wee lass. I studied Fashion Design at college nearly three years ago... Jeez, has it been that long? I plan on going back to study Costume Design sometime in the near future.

Slightly obviously, my main passion and hobby is costuming and textiles, and get my greatest pleasure out of wearable works. That being said I'm more than willing to try my hand at anything and enjoy dabbling in plastics, woodwork, electrical, and an assortment of crafting mediums.

My next project is going to be sourcing an original costume design off somebody and attempting to recreate it to their designs. It's too easy when designing your own costume to be mindful of your limits and abilities, so taking something that wasn't designed for you to bring to life and working it all out into the 3D world is really gratifying.

Hopefully you'll see me around!

Cheers,
Sarah.

I'm Dani.

I've been doing make-up for a few years, and costuming before that. I was intrigued by prop making, and felt I should try my hand at it to get a rounded creative experience.

Glad to be here. :)

Hello All,

Just joined up and am working on my first project; Mjolnir. I may also be creating an entire Thor costume, possibly a something in between the movie costume renderings and the original comic.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Howdy from a new member - I'm a big fan of various props, and I've worked in the prop world here in Hollywood for about 20 years. A couple of the coolest prop gigs I've had were on HELLBOY and TEAM AMERICA. For HB I made a few of his handprops and various graphics, talismans, relics, gold bars and other items - for TA I worked with an amazing team to make many of the 1/3 scale things that film was full of.
I collect things from the shows I've worked on, and from various other movies and TV shows. I mostly just collect the things I think look good - or have meaning to me. I also love to make replica props from reference material - for fun, I don't go into molecular detail...
The gang here seems like a great bunch - I see a lot of talent and passion for the craft - and for sharing. Thanks!

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,

I'm a bit new to the prop making field, having come from industrial prototyping and R&D work. I love to make props due to the level of detail that can be reached as well as the creativity behind the artistry. In the last several years I've done things for theater productions, movies, and tv series.

I can't wait to see some of the things everyone comes up with.
