Hello all.
I am a complete noob at costuming. For years I have want to try my hand at this but never knew where to turn. It was through a complete chance meeting that I found my way here by reference from a friend at Dragon Con. I must say the sheer volume of information available on here almost makes for sensory overload!
I have to start with a thank you for the people of this site who take the time to share their knowledge.
With that said, does anyone have a recomendation for what would make a good first build?

Joined to buy some Green Lantern rings. I have been blown away at the work that is displayed here. I have the bug now and just troll the forums for tips and techniques. Main interests are Doctor Who and Green Lantern, but I am a lifelong fan of SciF and comcs of all kinds. My only real hobbies are gaming, TV and Movies. And now props from gaming, TV and Movies.

Oops, just realized my first post wasn't here but in another thread:$

I came across this site a while back when I was searching for something (can't remember what it was at the time).

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year and I'm a Marvel collector from way back, so needless to say this is just a natural progression.

I'm a firm believer in homemade costumes and have been making my own for as long as I can remember (wish I had pictures of some of my earliest ones).

Anyways, love this site and look forward to contributing my own creations.

Hi... I'm new but have been on this site numerous times for advice and reference pics so thought it was time I joined up.

I'm from the Sheffield area in the UK, I'm a pagan/occultist and really quite gay.

I'm a fan of numerous sci-fi and fantasy things but my prop building is mainly concerned with Doctor Who.

My list of props is quite long, I need to have a look around the forums, see where to show them off or maybe just post a link to by Deviantart galley, assuming that's allowed, need to go over all the rules again too before I start.

Hi All, I'm Polexia, Amanda in the real world. Like so many others I've been lurking about. Finally decided to register. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship. I'm currently 24, living in Wisconsin, USA. I've been bitten by the replica bug a few weeks ago. Although I've always been fascinated with replicas. I'm interested in a large range...everything from Pride and Prejudice, Underworld, HP, Star Wars and beyond. Last summer I went to Star Wars in Concert. Completely awesome experience especially with the prop exhibit and the fact the the entire show was hosted by Anthony Daniels.

I haven't made any props on my own yet, but once I do I just know it'll be like opening the flood gates. I've always been an artsy person. Everyone that sees my drawings ask if my degree is in art. The answer is no, my degree is a BS in Wildlife Ecology: Research & Management.

Everyone here has made amazing items and have such wonderful collections. I hope to learn a lot from the people here. So excited about joining this forum!

Hello, I'm Tim from California. I have collected a few props in my time including a full set of Indy gear (Wested leather, etc), UDReplicas Tron, a suit of samurai armor and am looking forward to doing TFA Cap for next year!

Well, it's about time I posted here. I don't even remember how I stumbled on this site, but I'm hooked. I am interested in a wide array of replica sources: movies, tv, video games; star wars, gladiator, splinter cell, fallout, and a lot more... I'm Rob in real life...and I have no idea where I'd begin to build, but I'd like to start making my own. So if you have any beginners tips or advice let me know.

Hello All!

My name is Ashley (though I answer more to my nickname Squeak). I joined RPF because recently I was watching The Rocketeer and as I was watching it, I thought it would be pretty darn cool to have The Rocketeer's helmet. Well after researching and what not online for one, I decided that I would make my own and not knowing where to start I just researched how to make props and of course therpf was one of the sites that showed up.

I have never made a prop before (the closets thing is probably when I casted my hand in the 3rd grade) but right now I'm currently going to get a BFA in Media Arts and Animation and since I'm really interested in props I thought why not give it a shot.

Of course my first prop will most likely not be The Rocketeer helmet since it seems a little daunting at first. I think I might go with something easier like Magneto's helmet from Xmen First Class (unless anyone has something easier to suggest).

I really hope that I have a great time here, I can already tell that people on here are pretty great.

I was introduced to this forum by my brother in law, read/looked now and then but never took the time to register myself. But as i see here now, that's not easy. So i was lucky, or the timing was right, i dunno. Any way, I'm from the Netherlands, Living near Rotterdam with my husband and son. Love to sculpt but i never made a famous character. My name's Pete, and I"m from Austin, TX. Came across this forum while looking for the best Captain America shield repro as a gift to my brother. I'm a computer programmer, but I've stumbled into the movie prop business on the side. I've done some work out at Troublemaker studio, and should have props showing up in the new "21 Jump Street" movie, as well as a Terrence Malick IMAX project. Some really great work here, wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing!

I love costuming and make my own stuff, but unfortunately my imagination is bigger than my schedule! I have a particular interest in fantasy, medieval, and comic book costumes.
