New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

This episode all felt a bit muddled to me, and the quick treatment the Doctor's goodbye got smacks of it not being the last time we see Amy and Rory, which lessened the impact of it for me.

To me, the story would have been much stronger if it was played a bit more like Blink, focusing in on ONE character (Amy) rather than all of these other - mostly comic relief - characters. (That's a pun thanks to David Walliams being in this episode AND having been a huge component of this year's Comic Relief)

Here's how I would have written it: (Feel free to disagree)

They should have had maybe one character left, Rita, and show her as the last one standing. While she's fighting against the loss of faith, show Amy slowly falling prey to the same thing. Then by the time Rita finally succumbs, have the Doctor realize that he's been blind to the truth. He runs to Amy, where she is about to sacrifice herself, grabs her and moves her into a room.

The monster tries to bash in the door and Amy tries to claw her way to the door, THEN there would be MUCH more time for a really touching talk, between Amy and the Doctor, where he destroys his faith in her.

Cue haunting glockenspiel music as the ghostly Amelia turns around and comes to the aid of Amy, comforting her (Or possibly Amy having to comfort the waiting Amelia, signaling a newfound faith in herself). They all walk out in the hallway together, Amy and Amelia hand in hand, to face the monster. The doctor gives his little speech, then the hotel and Amelia fade away.

They jet off to home, the doctor then has 8 minutes to explain away the house and car, and say his goodbye.

The we can get a beautiful long shot with a swelling orchestration in the background of the doctor walking around in the TARDIS, idly flipping a switch, then going back to watch young Amelia waiting in her window, asleep, as he tenderly says, "Goodnight, pond."

And the TARDIS blinks out, indistinguishable from a twinkling star in the night sky.

FADE TO BLACK.

PS: Does anyone else think it would have been more powerful if only the affected person could see their own fear and the other people would have no clue what he or she is seeing?

Was just remembering the first Smith episode...first thing he eats is an apple. he hates apples. In this episode he chowed down on an apple.

I thought it was okay. I was really hoping to see no companion episodes next though. Hope the guy in next weeks episode it just one episode and he doesn't go around with the doc.

She's smart enough to know it's true

I might buy this, given the last epi, and his failiure with Mel, but then why would the monster want her? She knows already that she has lost faith in him, though only now she admits it.

So the monster should have gone for the mole guy or The Doctor.

Dramatically it would have worked better if Amy had been the one the beast didn't go for, and the Doctor realises his actions have finally lead to her loss of faith in him, and why, hence his returning them to Earth.

Amy's realisation that the Doctor is just a guy in a time machine with a god complex who has lost her her first child should have been a huge moment in the show, not this poorly conceived crapfest.

I'd chalk that up to his comment about how everything tastes wrong after a regeneration like after you come back from a cleaning at the dentist.

I don't think I'd want to see the Doctor's room. That would likely be incredibly grim, floor to ceiling companion corpses or himself gone mad with power as Ten was inching towards during Waters of Mars.

And Birdie, it's Melody, not Melanie.

By the way, I don't think I ever mentioned this last season, but did anyone else notice that Rory Williams is an anagram for

"So, I Will Marry"

Just seems interesting, given season 5.

I thought it was a nice touch that the Doctor's room was number eleven, as he is the eleventh Doctor.
So what happened to the bloody great house Amy inherited from her Aunt and had been living in up until the Doctor returned to find her all grown up???

You'll remember that her parents exist and are living there following Big Bang 2, so I'd assume she either moved in with Rory after the wedding or they got their own place.

I liked it. As much as I like Amy, she's become to much the center of the stories I believe. It's always about her. I'm sure they'll be back but I'm ready for a new companion.

As far as baby Melody/River, you got to take into account that for pretty much all of her pregnancy Amy didn't even know and the bond between mother and child forms a lot in that time. There should be a strong bond regardless, but real life proves for some that isn't the case.

And also, aside from when she was a baby, from Amy's point of view she had been taking care of Melody her entire life. She may have been a lot older by that time and just regenerated younger, but that wouldn't really be the first thing on Amy's mind when she realized who she was. They were best friends for what, 15 years? She didn't exactly miss out on her life/childhood. And as was just mentioned, she was only consciously pregnant with her for less than a day. Then she had a rubber clone baby for maybe a couple more days, and then back to normal.

Anyway, the episode was a bit weird. Muslim Martha could have been a good companion, but she basically was just Martha, and we've been there. I was expecting to see River with the eye patch tonight, though. We haven't seen that yet, have we? Next week will be a bit of an odd episode, without one of the real companions and just that guy that insulted Picard. I saw some of the behind the scenes preview stuff and it looks like a pretty bland filler episode, not like a finale at all.

I don't know, everyone is complaining about the guy from the apartment in the next episode being the new companion. I think if he were the new companion it would make for a drastically different chemistry and some funny scenes. I am ready for a change from Amy but I would miss her hottness if it is the apartment guy. (I can't remember his name.)

The God Complex was a bit odd. I really had trouble following it for some reason, and I never have that problem. I can't believe he left Amy and Rory behind. I think they are no long full time companions now, but they are returning next series, maybe not full time though. I wish they would bring back some old companions *cough* Jo Jones *cough* or some other classic companion, Jack, Martha, or Donna. Theres bound to be a way to have Donna return.

As for Closing Time next week, I'm so excited! I can't wait to see Craig and the Cybermen. "I'm the Doctor, I work in a shop now" :lol Then The Wedding of River Song, I'm really excited for that too!

God complex really took advantage on how creepy old hotels could be. Certain parts reminded me of the movie 1408.
Got a little confusing at the end, but nothing I am not used to with this show lately...

I would like to see an episode that brought Romana back. We don't know if she died in the time war of if the Doctor doesn't count her because she is in a different dimention. I think it would be interesting if she had her own TARDIS and if it looked like a police box. The Doctor could go into it by mistake.

We know that Karen Gillan signed on for Series 7, so we know Amy is coming back. Arthur D also signed on for some episodes of 7. I doubt they will let thier prized companion star go so easily. It's just a story gimmick to give the Doctor more slack to go on some solo adventures and maybe change things up.
Keep in mind it's pretty rare for a companion to stick around as long as Amy has - and rather than cut her out completely, they are simply letting the character take a much needed break.
I think this is a good thing for the show right now as it will help the new American audience get wiened off of her because eventually she WILL be off the show completely.

Did the show's popularity surge in America after she came on or something? I've watched Doctor Who since I was a kid, of course it was shown on PBS but the advantage to that is no comercials. Lol
