New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

We got to see Rory be a bit of a hero, how Amy would turn out if she was abandoned again and we got to see future Amy di.... oh wait.
(Theory ahead)
Doctor closes door, Amy tells Rory to keep door closed (but mentione nothing of the Doctor), Handbots touch Amy to put her to sleep before she's injected and then... A beam of light similar to the AI speaking or the robot's Transmat is seen as we fade to white...

The miniaturized people's Teselecta gave an image of Melody/River when asked to show "River Song" and they assumed Amy's appearance before shrinking her inside (same thing done to the Nazi officer). They only started hunting River after she poisoned the Doctor and would disrupt the time-stream. When the couple was inside the robot, the crewman was looking at Rory when he said "you're not guilty of anything" and then told them once they're done here their memory would be wiped so they can... (trailed off). When they mention they "found her, (they've) found Melody Pond", the camera cuts to Amy. The only time River is referred to as Melody by the Mini-crew is by the captain after Amy says "that's my daughter."

Place your bets: Future Amy in the spacesuit at Lake Silencio.

Now to gather the case for Ganger Doctor being the Doctor in "Let's Kill Hitler" until the tuxedo Doctor shows up...

I am going to make an educated guess as to why the US showings have the Amy opening;
It is my suggestion that the rise in popularity of the show in the US has a lot to do with Amy's character - specifically the manner in which she was introduced and the chemistry she has with The Doctor/Matt Smith.
For that reason, BBC-A has chosen an effective method to further promote the popularity of the show by playing on one of its key strengths - which weather you like it or not, is the current companion.

Yet another case of American TV execs thinking that they have to change things to pander to the audience, when they should credit you guys with enough intelligence to understand a show from the UK.

Someone really needs to them them that UK TV doesn't count as 'foreign' and doesn't need explaining/translating (or altering, and certainly not re-making)

That and there's the UK assumption that people in the US are stupid so they have to toss in footnotes and explinations so we can keep up. ;)

You are right. Its like they think we Americans are too stupid to remember the plot line. I'm not. I remember every episode I've ever seen. I can tell you what series the episode is in, where it was set, and the enemy. I find that Amy opening annoying. I think GeneralFROSTY has a point by saying they have it because Amy is the reason for the growing popularity in the US. Well, I liked it before Matt and Karen came along as the Doctor and Amy.

Well with Moffat's convoluted storytelling who can blame them. He throws a bunch of complex nonsence out there that only makes sense 2 years later.

I still have no clue what "The Big Bang" was all about.

Really? I didn't know there was that perception. I assumed with all the remakes US TV execs do that they were the ones that assumed US audiences needed things 'translated'.

It's not a case of them thinking we need things translated. US executives can't make any *money* off of importing UK productions. :unsure So they make them their "own".

Exactly. They think US viewers like the show because of the story but that's only part of it. The actors and the culture setting are the other aspects. They are part of the draw and when you put US actors and culture into the mix it doesn't always work. It's all about money when it comes to remakes and "translations".

Ah, there was me thinking it was about the intellectual integrity of the American people when it really just comes down to the almighty dollar :lol

Lets not forget also that American tv is poluted with a lot of simple-minded, pointless tv shows. Doctor Who is very dense with a lot going on and it IS a lot to take in, especially for new viewers. There are a few 'stand-alone' episodes, but for the most part, the show demands that you have watched it long enough to be familiear with the characters and situations in order to understand the grand story arc.

Wow, that was....dismal :confused

So Amy knows that in order to defeat the monster in the rubber suit, she has to lose faith in the Doctor...and all it takes is him telling her that he's a fake?

And even if she was dumb enough to fall for that, she's not the least bit upset?

This season is just all over the place in tone and direction, what has happenened to Moffat's arc and foreshadowing obession?

After all the mucking around in the first half of the series, with the incessant Amy-Melanie plot arcing, Amy seems to have completeley accepted that her kid has grown up without her, being programmed as an assasin, and has no grief at the loss of her child, and what has been done to her, Rory and Melanie?

The Doctor has somehow come up with a nice house and sports-car for her and Rory, so it's fine for him to zip off and face his impending doom, without so much as a 'watch your back' from Amy?

All very strange.

I loved it. Rita was an amazing character. My wife and I wanted her in the Tardis bad. She played a great companion that never was.

Weeping Angels, a Nimon reference, cloister bells...awesome. Would have loved a glimpse at the Doc's room. Imagination will have to do.

Loved the dual meaning of the God Complex.

She's smart enough to know it's true.
