I too personally would have liked to see at least one more Evil River vs Doc. Overall this ep felt very rushed. Oh well. Here is to hoping the next few eps are going to be a heck of alot better.
*SPOILERS*
and before I put things down, know that I do it with love and wanting the show to be the best it can be. I've been a Doctor Who fan since I was 4 years old.
I very much agree. IN GENERAL, I liked it, and I loved the stuff with Hitler in his office,...that was all great. I don't know that I support the idea of River being a "child of the TARDIS" and having regeneration abilities, just because she was conceived there/traveled through timey-wimey space stuff etc. Personally I like to preserve that ability for actual Timelords.
I was let down at the end of the last episode (before we went on break). Finding out who River was (correct me if I'm wrong) SUPPOSED to be this terrible/crushing thing to find out, like we've never heard anything so awful in all of our lives,...well we found out who she was...and everyone was really happy about it, and the Doctor exited with a prancing "tra la la!" Ummmmmm.....it was random and unfitting.
Also, the end of that episode was very similar to the Pandorica opening when everyone in the whoniverse comes back to fight. With the Pandorica....I loved it,...but doing it AGAIN?,...was pushing it. I am perfectly content dealing with the Doctor and his personal drama on a one-on-one level,...I don't ALWAYS need EVERYONE to come back to try to make an event seem bigger....and in the last episode? People came back to help the Doctor fight, but after they are re-introduced we never saw them again? WHAT WAS THAT? And that pirate and his kid? Isn't that kid stuck on a ship on life support???
*SKIP AHEAD*
NOW we "meet" new River who has been programmed her whole life to kill the Doctor...................her whole life.............so to kill the man,...AND to save him in the same episode? That was a little too much transformation for me at once. As far as character development goes, I would have liked to of seen that progression dragged out more. I mean for Pete's sake, at least kill him and stretch his death over to the next episode so we're "not sure" if she's going to save him or not (even though we know what's going to happen).
Also, I found it weird that it was the poison on her lips that killed the Doctor, but then as she's saving him she kisses him again, not that it should kill him again,...it was just ironic. Also she used up all of her regeneration energy to bring him back to life,...from the dead...personally.....I feel like he should have regenerated, but we're obviously not ready to lose Matt. Unless you hate Matt in which case you may feel differently. I just feel like the end was just VERY FORCED and RUSHED.
I think they could sacrifice the "shock & awe" entrances for a more clean and believable storyline. Sci Fi or not.
