New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Unless you're counting the odd reconfiguration for an episode here or there, or you're counting minor upgrades/changes to the console itself, you've got 7 with the current being the seventh.
1: Hartnell - Tom Baker (essentially the same throughout with minor changes from time to time)
2: the "wooden" auxilliary control room
3: the new control room (davison - McCoy)
4: TVmovie room (McGann)
5: 9/10 control room.. coral (Eccleston-Tennant)
6: 11 mk1 (Smith)
7: 11 mk2 (the one from this episode)

Very cool but I think there may have been a few more than that. I could swear that the Hartnell version had alcoves and off rooms that that weren't there in Troughton's time and also they made some pretty serious changes to the set in Pertwee's time. Take the control room in Planet of the Daleks for example; a wall with beds and drawers, etc.

The more I think about it the more I think you're right, d_jedi1, in that there have only been 7 total overhauls of everything in the console room and everything else would count as minor changes or set alterations.

I guess it depends on what you consider a new/different tardis interior.

Hartnell had different bedrooms/areas that you didn't see in Troughton's run. Then again, I don't recall seeing any rooms BUT the main console room during Troughton's run. No jamie's room, etc. Just kind of a door for 'exit, stage left' or whatever.

There was more exploration of the interior during Baker's run, but the main room didn't change much.

I don't know that i'd actually call the main control room being 'different' from Hartnell through McCoy. It was the same basic design.

If you want to look at actuall different designs I think you've got:
-Classic
-Alternate Console room (baker)
-TV Movie
-9/10
-Smith 1
-Smith 2

I also find it kind of funny that the new console room is described somewhere above as less CG looking when the it's the only one that actually has CG aspects in it :)

On a different note - what kind of being can be killed off repeatedly and continue to come back (Apparently not with memory, but with mannerisms and sayings) like that?

Not quite timelord since there's no memory and no apparent regeneration.

Clone?

Unknown (to even the doctor) species?

Moffat seems to be stronger at the setup than the resolution. I'm not holding out too much hope for a mindblowing answer to the clara thing. Great character and actress though. I couldn't stand the Ponds but this one is a winner.

I'm not sold on Clara yet. I'm growing a bit weary of the 'deeper meaning' or the 'this whole thing revolved around you' or the, 'it was always you' aspect of his companions.

I miss the days (Tom) when the Doctor would just travel around having fun and helping as needed. Drop off a companion, pick up a new one and move on. Regular people with no celestial significance, just folks along for the ride!

Agree with you but I do like Clara.

I was rolling my eyes each time the Doctor put the key in her hand. From "I don't help" to "Join me in everything I do" in 10 seconds flat.

I don't know man, I might give a key pretty fast for a crack at some some quality box time if I was the Doctor :lol.

I've been thinking about this some more. My questions is, "Why would the TARDIS regenerate the console room, but not the outside, like she did in the 11th hour?"

My guess is that this wasn't a "forced" regeneration but rather a change the Doctor made. The TARDIS seemed to be fine after the whole Manhattan affair.

I wonder if the connection between Claira and the bad guys is going to continue. She seemed to somehow be connected with them both times we see her.

I am thinking Clara might have been the master (or whatever) of the snow creatures. She was able to melt them in the alley with the Doctor but the girl could not do it when the ice creature was attacking them in the room. At the end Clara starts crying before she dies and the snow creature goes away.

We saw that she was some kind of super Dalek and able to mess with them in a big way (They seemed to be afraid of her and thought the Doctor could fix it). It will be interesting to see how she ties in with the next enemy.

She seems to represent the good side of evil.
