New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

The biggest problem with Dr's 1 and 2 is that about 40% of 1 is missing and 60% of 2 is missing.

Which is why I think #2 is so underrated as the Doctor. His stories and his character were awesome.

What I liked about Sarah and I think what set her apart is that she didn't have a crush on him or look at him as her father or anything, but she was treated as about as equal as the doctor could treat a non-timelord. As was said she was a true 'assistant' helping all the way.

Not really sure I see it the same way although I do see where you're coming from. I thought it very much was a father daughter relationship.

Ian and Barbara are my favorites (Also a big Harry fan) They were not intimidated by him, not infatuated by him, not afraid to tell him he was wrong, and equally ready to listen to and learn from him!

Favorite new Who companions, Jack and Rory, they grew the most as people being with him and Donna, as they had more of a brother sister relationship and it was nice not seeing her all over him.

I've been thinking about this some and it seems to me like the new series Doctors have elements of the previous series Doctors used to create there personalities. Now, admittedly, they should because technically they are all the same person at the core but having watched all of the old series and all of the new, much of it repeatedly it feels like 9 is a fusion of 1 & 2, 10 drew most of the initial elements from 3 & 4 and 11 certainly feels like a mix of 5 & 6. It seems like the writers start with what came before, as I've listed, present it to the actor and let them give their own interpretation of the material.

This possibly being the case when Matt hangs up his hat (hopefully no time soon) the next incarnation would start off as a mix of 7 & 8 which should be pretty interesting considering how very opposite those two incarnations were.

I knew that's what they'd do with Clara's character. Called it a few weeks back.

I do wonder if they'll do it again in the new series next year. Though again it feels like they're really just taking elements from Amy, Rory and River and combining them into Clara's character.

Doctor Who: New Consol Room (Mods, please merge)

Loving it! While I liked his last one, this one feels more like the "Doctor's" consol room should. Love the pulsating lights around the room and the spinning top on the colomn. I think the auxillary control panel behind it is a nice touch as well.

Okay, this year's Christmas special was the best since the first one with Tennant/Rose. I'm really digging the new TARDIS interior and the spinning rings with Gallifreyan symbols on it. Even Smith was bearable, and that's a lot coming from me.

I really like the Clara character. I'll be interested to see where they take her. I doubt she's a Time Lord, but there's certainly something there with her being reincarnated several times.

Seems to be more than just a genetic resemblance, like with Eve Myles characters in Who and Torchwood. The repeated names, the same phrases, the soufflés... re-incarnation? Not sure, but it seems Clara or Oswin, is something more than a normal human. (Maybe that's why the Daleks were keen to do a full conversion on Oswin?)

Re: Doctor Who: New Consol Room

It's colder in colour, darker, less human influenced and a fair bit more alien and clinical.
But...
That's not a criticism, that's exactly how The Doctor is at the start of this story: Deliberately keeping his distance, aloof, brooding (or sulking as Clara put it). This new look perfectly echoes the current mood of The Doctor.

Loving the Galifreyan symbols, they remind me of 9/10's console room, The controls themselves seem far more like a development of classic who interfaces, only with more touchscreen/LEDs and less buttons.

The roundels look to me like they have the possibility of altering the colour of the lighting, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them used to show a change in tone/mood as th new companion has an affect of the Doc's mood.

Re: Doctor Who: New Consol Room

I like it although that one panel looks a bit too... flowing plasma? and not enough control but that could always change or be explained.
It'll take a little getting used to. (that ONE panel) :lol

Re: Doctor Who: New Consol Room

Love it, for some reason it reminds me of the really early control room. When does the next half of this season start?

I didn't know there was a surprise, until 10 minutes beforehand. Couldn't figure out the who part til the end and had to pause in the credits to see it because the zipped by pdq on bbca only to find they typo'd his name as Iam :)

New tardis is pretty cool. Maybe tone down the spinning lights when it kicks into gear, but aside from that, it was great.

Loved the episode - can't wait for the next 7 which hopefully will air soon.

JLC seems to be a pretty good actress as well!

Did they redesign the exterior too? I know it was weathered, but it looked different somehow. Could have just been my imagination.

Looked like they threw mud or something on it.

Also, the Silurian and sontaran WERE out of the era, but they weren't milling around where just anyone could see them so it wasn't really a taking anyone out of anything issue as people feared. The guy under the alien control and Clara's 'host family' were the only ones that saw them and, yes, they freaked out.

I loved the Sontaran as comic relief!

"She sent me to bring you some grenades."
"Grenades?"
"She may have said help."

:)

Surprised to see that people liked that episode. I thought it was awful. :lol

Clara's good. Like the new TARDIS.

Thought the whole "Doctor doesn't help people anymore" was a bit lame and the side characters (lizard lady, wife, & Sontaran) were completely superfluous to the plot. The Sontaran though was pretty funny.

Indeed. The trailer (thankfully) was misleading in that regard. :thumbsup

One question though:

The snow in the yard outside the house needs to come in contact with the ice lady. When Clara falls so does the ice lady and the Doctor doesn't retrieve them until a bit after they've landed...

So why didn't the snow intelligence win at that point? Clearly they came in contact with ice woman and it shouldn't matter that she was in pieces because later the Doctor offers her hand and that seems to be enough.

Re: Doctor Who: New Consol Room

Love the new console except that one panel that looks a little off (plasma one). Love seeing some of the classic instruments there as well. :)
