Didn't get much done today :)

Just a quick note about UK availability. The Entertainer have opened a new branch in Sheffield and have some X-Wings on display. The person I spoke to said he was sure they'd be stocking the Falcon at some point. Not sure about the price, hopefully they'll follow Argos' lead.

Here's a detailed, obscure question on the paint finish of the original...

At least five years ago (more likely at least ten years ago) the original 32" model exhibited a splatter pattern of paint just slightly off from the base color. Imagine taking a slightly different tone than the base color, thinning it, and splattering it on with a toothbrush by drawing your thumb back against the bristles.

This doesn't show except in the very best of reference shots (it may show in the Sculpting A Galaxy images).

Question: Can anyone confirm if this was intended part of the original finish for the filming itself, or was it post-filming "damage"...?

It's hard to say. You say you saw it about 5-10 years ago. Current photos I've seen of it on the Identities tour definitely indicate the spray is there throughout the ship. However, the most noticeable area is in the front between the jaw box and the radar dish. I could not make out much splatter on the rear although there're are hints of it.

Rob, Im going to say it was on for filming. Funny you say tooth brush as I started to do this on my MF but my workshop tooth brush had grime on it from a clutch job.

Concur whole-heartedly... That's where it seems strongest.

Guys,

I need some help with where to source a decent lighting kit from. I dont want to put some cheapos on this as i want it to last. I also would like to know the best way of creating the striplight effect on the rear. Ive seen some great things done, but need to know where and how to do this.

The striplight effect is done one of two ways A) using a light diffuser IE Frosted/lightlty sanded pice of plastic or B)EL Wire ribbon and an inverter.

I bought a complete set of interior electronics form a Hasbro Legacy Falcon off Ebay for $20. It has all the main lights and its hooked up to a pre programmed circuit board with sounds/movie quotes. So you get to push buttons and watch your falcon come to life. I already have the Legacy Falcon and the electronic portion is fantastic. I just need to make up a light diffuser for the main engine and get a battery tray. For the diffuser, I prolly cut a piece of PVC in half lengthwise and face the open portion towards the engine. Cover with foil. Next, face the engine lights towards the PVC pipe/foil reflector. The light will bounce off the pipe towards an opaque piece of plastic that I will further diffuse the engine lights.

Here is another option ($50):
