I'll wait. It still is a great deal.

Richard, could you confirm that you sent more than 50 sonics to each of the suppliers? I'm getting a bit frustrated that they have the stock, but aren't acting on it.

Yes, each of the UK retailers (Firebox, Forbidden Planet and BBC Shop) did indeed receive more than 50 sonics. However, I've since learned that there was a screw-up by our warehouse team, and they accidentally sent the wrong version of the sonic to Firebox last week - our warehousing company had a new person join, who wasn't familiar with our products. Unfortunately the mistake wasn't noticed by Firebox's warehouse until Monday, so they didn't receive the correct product until Tuesday. I'm really sorry about this - it's one source of delay that I certainly wasn't expecting. Hopefully they're all checked into the Firebox warehouse now and will be dispatched imminently.

It's here! ...It's gorgeous...

You're the first customer in the world to give any feedback (and, as you know, one of the first people in the world to get the product), so we're absolutely delighted to hear that you like it.

Question: If I decide I can't live without one of these, can I wait for Christmas present money, or will they all be gone by then?

We're hopefully making enough stock to last until after Christmas, but I guess it's possible that they might sell out before then. If it does sell out, we'll of course be making more, and they should be available in the early part of next year.

Don't worry - that sounds like just a standard email from BBC America Shop. (The email that Technoboots mentioned above was from BBC UK Shop.) BBC America will be receiving their stock at the same time as ThinkGeek - I guess it's just unusual for them to have pre-orders that start more than 60 days before the stock is available.

I, of course, don't blame you, but that is mightily frustrating indeed. I've heard hide nor hair from Firebox about this either... how annoying! Only annoying because the sonic looks fantastic, of course! Thanks for letting me know though.

Thanks! Looks like I'll be informing everyone that there are now two items on my Christmas list: This, and a new longbow (I have diverse interests :D)

Ah, splendid. An old friend and ex-colleague of ours makes longbows (and is a Court Member of the Guild of Traditional Bowyers and Fletchers) in his spare time - he makes proper solid yew warbows with horn nocks, etc. They're fabulous bits of kit but I think they're rather more expensive than sonic screwdrivers...

Here! Pictures. I'm awake. iPhone camera is the best I have on me, I'm afraid, but there you go.

I've fully charged it and got used to it now. It just feels perfect. I love how the sound gets louder as it extends, a sort of inevitable feature but it's an excellent one regardless. I don't want to spoil the sounds but every choice there is excellent.

To me this version of the sonic always looked best when it was just slightly extended, and the slidey metal click when it's like that is very satisfying. It's the simple things, right? I've not programmed it with the TV yet but I'll get to it.

Indeed they are. As much as I would love one, sadly a yew bow is out of my price range. The more reasonable (and still entirely acceptable at traditional shoots) laminated or non-yew wood options are still available. (My maple self-bow just doesn't have the power any more)

Did you polish it or did it come like that? Because it looks awfully shiny! :)

Nope, it comes that shiny.

It's actually not easy to polish it - we decided to lightly anodise the surface in order to make it more durable and scratch-resistant, and to avoid a visual discrepancy between the areas that are extruded and those that are machined. You can see the slightly-dull surface in all of our photos (including the prototypes we showed at SDCC) - I suspect that adderinternet's pictures make the aluminium look a little bit shinier than it really is.

Richard, do you think the screwdriver would get in stock early enough for me to have it by Halloween?
Also, i haven't been saying thank you each time you have been answering my questions, so thank you!

I certainly hope so, but I'm afraid I can't promise it - as you're aware, we're doing our very best to get these Sonics manufactured and delivered to the retailers as quickly as possible, but there are plenty of things that could potentially cause a couple of days' delay here and there.

OK, thank you for the response.

Got mine this morning, after a two hour charge , we have a very good replica of the 10th doctors sonic , well machined aluminium , predominantly, The 'crackle' finish is very light in terms of the moulding which as Richard has already said was impressed from Tennant's original, so I will be experimenting with colour washes , until I get the right effect, only two very minor points , the blue dome emmiter head is not perfectly round ( mine has a dent in it on one side) and appears loose which could be the way it was fitted into the head. The sound effects are there in FX mode but do not syncronise with the led ( steady light on with sound effect) , and the end cap is a loose fit ( only held on with a friction lip joint) so it does spin. Neither of these detract from the prop in any real way .
I think most fans will be very happy with it , personally it would and will make a great donor for any of the Ninth's sonics, with a little customising, the damaged sonic, or even a River Soong replica . I'll post some shots once I've colour washed it.
All in all Congratulations to the Wand Company a 1:1 replica that's actually a functioning TV remote .... well done gents !!!

We're aware that some of the blue domes are slightly loose (such that they can be rotated against the aluminium head) - it doesn't affect the function of the Sonic but we've tweaked the mould tooling already so this will be fixed in later production units. If it's troubling you then you can fix it in place by carefully wicking a small amount of low-viscosity superglue into the join between the blue dome and the aluminium head. However, the blue dome really shouldn't have a dent in it - if you email us (ideally with a photo) at sonic@thewandcompany.com, we'll get that sorted out for you.

...and the end cap is a loose fit ( only held on with a friction lip joint) so it does spin.

That was intentional - we found that it was easier to perform the rotation gestures smoothly if you hold the black end cap steady (pressed into the palm of your hand with third and fourth fingers) and rotate the Sonic between thumb and forefinger. Also, some people were struggling to get the end cap off with our first prototypes.

Ah, thanks very much - we're really pleased that you like it!
