Nerf Aliens Pulse Rifle Build

I was just looking into one of those for when I do mine. After a bit of searching I found this one

Looks compact enough, and is one of the simpler designs I've seen so far. Even if it's a bit bigger in real life (some diagrams aren't to scale), a wire ribbon can be used to put the display in the right place if the board needs to be stashed in a larger cavity somewhere :thumbsup

and so it begins...I'm fearing this is the easy part tho :wacko

I've somehow managed to stop the recon from firing so rather than add to the stress of the build by keeping the nerfs functional I've decided to leave it 'broken' and just a static display piece (trigger still works and both guns can be ****** but that's it, no firing) and pimp it with some little details instead (including a counter hopefully)

grille effect detailing on the lower part of the longshot front...

Thompson styled grips...

and last but not least a fancy pants charging bolt (old mini torch top)

Zipatronic, where did you get your hands on the large sheets of styrene? and what thickness did you use?

Not got details on me as I'm at work atm but I used 2 mm, my next attempt will be 1.5 mm though. Uk supplier next day courier delivery.

I can see your point, I'm using a 1.5mm sheet atm for another project and it takes some elbow grease to cut the bugger!

I was thinking to go thicker for the shrouds on this tho just for strength but you reckon 1.5mm would be strong enough?

Well the 2 mm was more than strong enough as it was without strengthening it with hot glue. But it can be a swine to cut the 2mm. I'm making the stock and front pump with 2mm though.

Oh yeah I can see that now you mention it..what's the benefit? aesthetic or helps with the shrouds?

also I'm a bit stumped about how to get the curves cut out on the side panels of the shroud...I'd usually use a drill to get the circle and cut from that or is there a tool that you used? or just good old fashioned manual skill?

it's not THOSE type of curves! ;)

I'm on a train and the free wifi was acting up :lol

I have picked up a piece of tube to cut in half to make the inside curve for my latest attempt but the old 1 was made by scoring grooves on the back side of the piece I used and bending as best as I could plus some filler of course.

cool thanks and last question before I overstay my welcome...what filler did you use?
(it's cos you're UK based I'm hassling cos most folks here are from the US and use products we don't have on this little island)

I used styrene melted in the glue as a filler works very well :) and if you don't ask you don't get to know anything lol.

The glue is plastic weld it melts the plastic slightly so if you add scrap styrene to some glue it forms a liquid plastic. You can buy large cans of it from EMA directly. Cheaper that the small bottles you get from model shops etc.
