Need some suggestions to keep eyepieces from fogging up

I almost have my husband convinced to reprise his Sandman Mystery Theater costume for DragonCon. We're also working on another group project, but our Sandman, Red Tornado, and Flash(a friend who's coming with us) was so much fun that I'd like to do it again. The problem is, Nate's costume was very warm, with the overcoat, leather gloves, hat, gas mask, and baclava(spelling?) type hood. On top of his hearing being muffled, the eyepieces in the gas mask kept fogging up. It was so frustrating that he's considering not wearing the costume and just walking around to help me with my helmet/pot. Any suggestions on how I can keep the eyepieces from fogging up?

Have you tried the anti-fog stuff designed for motorcycle helmets? Rain-X is one brand.

Given the humid conditions in ATL and going from those to air-conditioned interiors, it's going to be a battle. I've have my glasses fog up some years, without all the added cover up.

Go to Amazon.com, search for anti-fog, then read the reviews and pick the best product. Simple, eh?

If you can fit a tiny fan in there somewhere, that would be even better.

The only that kept the lenses in my Vader from fogging ( I wore eyeglasses as well under the mask) was a thing called the froogy mask..a little neoprene guard that sort of sealed the top of the mask off above my nose and made the hot breath exit out of the bottom of the mask. I tried the anti fog stuff and it would last for 15 min max..

I use a paste called Cat Crap. Made by EK. You can get it at REI, EMS, etc. Best stuff in the world!

small fans might help. they don't have to be on all the time, just long enough to kick out the moisture and humidity. Works on your car windshield, why not in costuming?

The other option is not breathing :lol

they actually have a spray for paintball players, maybe cjeck anyplace that sells quality paintball equipment.

I use this: Mostly because I can steal it from my dive bag, but it is very effective. Just put a little on your finger, rub it on the inside of the lenses, and then gently wipe it off with a damp cloth or paper towel.

Been trooping for over a decade now and always put a fresh coat of rainX on mine. Even in humid climates I don't fog up. It's fairly cheap, very easy to get, and works like a champ.

I'll second this one. Used CC for a few years now and never had an issue with it.. Lasts for ages too.

Another cheaper option is neat washing up liquid.

The real problem is mouth heat and humidity, block them from getting to the eyes and THEN add rain x or whatever. Most of the work will be done be keeping out that excess :)

I've seen many movie prop helmets with vent holes to avoid them misting up.Theyre usually pretty small to avoid them showing on screen.I'm not sure the anti fog liquid would work all on its own but you have many great suggestions here from experienced costume wearers.Good luck.

If he's using a real gasmask he could gut it of the valves etc. to allow more air in.

Balaclava = clothing.
baclava = pastry.

For the lenses in some of my costumes I have a tiny gap between the bottom of my lens and where it meets the seal to let a little air in. I'll look into the froggy mask and cat crap too
