this may be a long shot but i figured i could ask for advice. i have acess to a indy idol cast off of one on the original molds Elstree Props owned... however the idol has been "modified" from its original version. its hard to describe this exactally without giving away where the idol is located.

anyways my question is, who on the RPF has the most screen accurate idol that i can compare these modifications to and fix them. i want to make a new mold from it and cast a 3rd gen original replica for my collection.

Hmmm….

If what you say is correct then the story of your idol is intriguing to say the least. There are many threads here regarding the original idol and the copies made of the original idol by modelmakers at ILM and a lot more. If yours has been modified the that makes it even more interesting because its hard to imagine why - but then, stranger things have happened..

Its safe to say that the Gobler is generally considered to be the most accurate so a good starting point would be there. Obviously, if you take yourself off the the original prop blog (Raiders of the Lost Ark Fertility Idols In The Marketplace (“The Danziger Collection”, “Elstree Film Studios”) : The Original Prop Blog – Jason DeBord's TV and Movie Prop Memorabilia Resource) you will find an especially concise list of the various idols.

I hope we get to see your idol and its progress..

Generally speaking any idol coming from Elstree is taken with agrain of salt. They have a very bad rap in the prop world as Kram has pointed out.

If you send me pics of you idol taken at least 6 feet away (to reduce distortion) I will tell you. The idol is a passion of mine, obsession really. ;)

You can always refer to this thread I started for a little more history:
