NECA Releasing Prop Portal Gun

If my luck holds true this time, (unlike the first go 'round where I ordered the Portal gun from 3 or 4 places before the OFFICIAL announcement from NECA...only to have those orders cancelled because NECA didn't deem the retailers worthy or something along those lines, {I was among the BBTS folks who had their orders cancelled...}), I might wind up with a second of the P-Body version due to my sibling ordering one for me...most likely as a preemptive strike to stop my belly-aching about not being able to order one. :D

{...& I should note that I didn't WANT 3 or 4 of the Portal guns, I just wanted to make sure I could actually GET one. It's sort of a family thing since my kids & I played both Portal & Portal 2 through from beginning to end together. :) }

Still waiting on mine, unfortunately it's being shipped with a courier that appears to be worse than useless. Had a "Failed Delivery" today, no card left, no attempt to contact me, and now it's been returned to the depot. The courier is so bad, you can't even contact them about parcels because they use underpayed third party "last mile" couriers...

...oh well...I live in hope that it arrives tomorrow...

It arrived!

In fairness to my previous rant, the delivery woman was actually very nice, and even explained why the tracking was confusing (apparently she knew she didn't have time to deliver it yesterday)

Its a nice replica, much better than I was expecting. My only gripe is the seam along the bottom of the front cowling, but I suppose that's to be expected.

Need to buy some batteries now and get it fired up!!

Got mine last week... Works pretty well!

Needs some refinement, will try to get some better pics when I have more time ;)

I bought one of the original run from Play.com (I'm in the UK).

It came in a play.com box, so the retail box was actually in pretty good nick.

I'm mostly pleased with the gun itself as well; it does feel a bit like a toy, but I think for conventions and cosplays, it'll do nicely. Plus the blue light is fairly bright, so it makes a great mood light :lol

Posted some pics onto flickr: NECA Portal Gun Replica - a set on Flickr

I even made a video!

The one thing that annoys me though, is that the top middle of the 'grabbers' is slightly wonky. At first glance you can't tell, but when you look closer, it just annoys me a little. Can't budge it.

Got one of the first batch up here in Canada a couple weeks back, which I ordered from cool-toys the instant they were first announced.
$149 and change total, including shipping and taxes. Never bought from them before, but it came double-boxed safe and sound and they had plenty of updates during the wait.

I bodged up a stand quick and dirty. Got one of the newer Xboxes? Mine came with this foam bit to keep it snug.

I cut a semi-circle out of each side and now it cradles the gun like it was designed for it.

That foamy piece actually looks pretty good as a stand. I'm still waiting for my gun to arrive, I've made a stand for it already, just need to finish it when the package arrives so I get the measurements right. I'm planning to build a replica of the in-game stand, but it might take a while as I've never done anything like that before, ever. Shouldn't be too hard though.

I know this might seem a little destructive, but has anyone taken a NECA Portal gun apart? I've ordered a P-Body version and I'm ~considering~ repainting it and I'm wondering if it's possible to change the red LED to a green one.

I got my Portal gun in (P-Body version) and I'm a little underwhelmed. I knew it was made of plastic, but I was expecting at least the white tip end to have the inside solid since it's highly visible when looked at from the front.
My biggest gripe is the button setup: When cheap toys can active a light switch and a sound when you pull a trigger, why did they go with a [Red:Off:Orange] switch AND a separate sound switch?
Especially when you can't active the sound AND switch the lights, which trying to do so turns off the audio and destroys the total effect.

I'm underwhelmed enough that I might sale it locally (if I can get $200-$250 for it, else I'll keep it and carry it around as a costume prop.) I certainly would NOT consider this good enough to call it a collectable.

I'm not understanding your grip with the switch setup?
Set it to one colour... fire a portal... Set it to the other colour, fire the other portal.
Seems fine to me!

What should be solid but isn't?

Looks like the blue stripe version is coming out along with a few new goodies. My favorite is the stand for the portal gun actually. Looks pretty cool and that it may work with fan build guns:

As seen on bigbadtoystore.com for $50
