neat Padd type photo viewer

Just picked up one at my local Walmart for $19, just came down from $29. However, when I hooked it up to my computer, it crashes the computer. I'm running XP SP3. This isn't the first USB device to do this either. I really would like to be able to delete the default images and load some images into internal memory. Otherwise, it's a very neat device.

I just dis some searching around eBay and found a few cheap models.

This one is $11 including shipping, and the form factor would let you build just about any kind of body around it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Synaps-3-5-Port...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item35a4874912

The only down side to ordering a device like this online is you don't know about things like on screen graphics (OSD) for behavior like advancing to the next image.

If there is no on screen display for advancing photos, and a reasonable refresh time between images, you can easily replace the momentary push button with a switch, to enable the device to constantly cycle photos at its top speed (rather than a slideshow mode that pauses so you can see each photo)

One good trick is to find a model number or manufacturer's information inside the device and search online. Once you find an overseas manufacturer (usually in China) you can search around and get them dirt cheap. Typically these things are sold pre-branded by the manufacturer to 50-100 other companies that then brand and sell them for many times what the manufacturer charges.
