I just found this forum while looking for replica George Washington Inaugural buttons, and noticed you're having some issues with information on the buttons. I also see you're working on making some of the replicas already. I figured I'd give you a PDF link that has all of the buttons known to exist, their sizes, materials originally used, etc. Apparently no one makes replica GWIB's, so you might have a corner on the market lol. This is the link, it's a PDF history of the various buttons, etc, that was compiled by a guy who collected them. This is real history, not just something in a movie, so you all may be more interested than you originally thought!
I'm very interested in these, not because I saw them on National Treasure, but because I metal detect and know a great many people who have found them metal detecting. The "Pater Patriae" is a very rare one to find, and I am especially looking forward to being able to get one.
Hope this all helps, from a newbie on an awesome looking forum!
Hi I just found this forum and you've got a great project going Taz. I collect the WI buttons and the "Pater Patriae" is definitly a rare one, very hard to find anywhere. Your prototype looks great. I'm in for a few.
thanks
Dave
Hi does anyone have a clear pic of the WI buttons in the case that would help identify the particular ones? I was trying to put some pics together for Taz for his button case project. thanks Dave
Did somebody figured out the measurements for such a display?
If not i would try by myself and let you know the results of my investigations
here. But if somebody already did, this would save me some time
ok, after some measurements, basing on screenshot i have give it a try with an outside dimension of 19 x 23 cm (14mm thick, 3cm "high") and made a frame, gave it a quik paint with a wood-color (mahagony...i know it should be darker ) and made some inlay with some cartons flying arround here. Here is the actual result...
@Jedifyfe..thanks a lot and sorry for the late reply :confused. At the moment it is not scheduled to make a run out of it, at least not until i got a posititv feedback that i am accurat "enough" and get some serious interests :confused :lol
So here is a small update of the painting process. What you think?
I didn't sanded down to entire frame as as wanted to have a redish undertown in it. Don't why, but this seems "accurat" to me.
Now i have to figure out how to make the interior. Thinking about a canvas covered "styrofoam" (styrodur or similar) stripes :confused Lets see what i find at home.... any recommendations are appriciated Thanks in advance!
