Narcissus Builders Club N Stuff.

Had a visit from Simon, and we worked through a few minor details - thanks Simon :thumbsup

We also took the opportunity to try the engines built by Martin Bower (courtesy of Nwerke/Martin) on the prototype. As expected, the bottom engine is slightly off (due to the fact that MB's replica is different in this area from the original). The engine nozzles are also not accurate. The plan is to scratch build/3D print new, more accurate engines and nozzles.

Ohhh man, those look KILLER. You guys are really going above and beyond what is normally seen in a group-run kit.

OK it turns out I'm not a complete idiot (shut up!) The Chevey 15CWT kit I have is the Italeri version and the decal sheet doesn't have the Indian markings. Thus the 'arrow'61477 isn't on there. :)

I can get what I need from the pic posted here.

Well you did ..... Lee and I both forgot. So without you we'd both be running around with our head up our arses looking for something I already posted about 5 pages back.

Hoo, looking nice. Have been having router problems and couldn't get online for a while, and have been held up on bathroom renovations. Doing a hit and run right now, got to catch up properly with this thread!

I'll upload the 3D nozzle to Shapeways this week or weekend, promise. The engines look like a better fit than I first feared. Clear differences though. Martin B's castings are super nice but we've had the luxury of putting in a lot more tweaking time on the proportions than he would have. For my build I'll still use the cast engines but will have to extend the lower ones a fair bit obviously.

Simon, do let us know how you get on with your parts layouts/scalings, yeh? Cheers for the chat tonight.

Love yer work, guys!

Will do. You still gonna mod Bowers engines for your build? Your gonna have to do some scribing and pissing about with the shape too. May as well just use the new ones. Now get cracking on those engines will ya. Oh and the Cygnus....

More progress today...

This is the escape hatch that fit between the two rear engine mounts.
I have also made the (optional) interior piece which fits inside this area if you choose to detail the interior (ala MB's replica).

This is how the hatch section looks fitted to the main model.

Damn you guys. Fantastic work. It's so beautiful just in the "naked" version. Work of art

It really impresses me, how quick this project has moved from a mere idea and wish from Simon, to this. Good work guys. All of you! :)

Cheers Niels... I must say it has been a fun group build so far (no fights) and the common goal of bringing everyone the most accurate Alien Narc has gone very smoothly. Almost organic in nature. An important factor I think is that there are no Ego's in this build just a common love for this model.

For me I think it was born out of Necessity. I think it was Frank who started a thread here somewhere asking what Ss models we would like to see that hadn't been done as yet. The Narc was always on the top of my list as was the turbo laser. So if I can't buy it I'm just gonna have to build it. We really did have a leg up on this with Martin Bowers "list" and his build and of course it helped that Martyn (Nwerke) also had a bee in his bonnet over this model some years ago and started his own research. Paul has turned out to be a bloody legend. I asked him some time ago if he wouldn't mind drawing me up some basic DXF files of the hull shape and well... Trust an engineer... We now have this beautiful structure we see today. Crossed referenced all known refs and Martyns drawings which were already pretty damn close I might add.

Then there's Lee with his skill at id'ing and drawing up the decals. It really has been a group effort including Fred and all those who have contributed refs. I think realistically we should start shipping kits in January. Once I have the weight of the cut acrylic we may offer a full kit shipped but that's all up in the air at the mo. If not it's the files resin and decals.

Thanks everyone for the work so far..... Now let's get this puppy (piggy) finished.

Simon.

Just in case of confusion it's Martin Bower, and Martyn-Nwerke. :)

Mate I'll post some engine renders tonight.

Fixed it. I always make a conscious effort to spell em differently as well.. Dammit.

Cool... Looking forward to some renders.

Anyone know these? the one in the center console rear is used 3 times on the narc. once here and twice on the underside.

I've been trying to get the best/most useful screen capture from the Blueray and so far this is it:

I'm looking at it for the decals, but the underside is so lacking in reference pics it might be of use for kit parts (I already spotted a SAM-2 piece you can't see in the other ref pics.
Next I'm going to use some image averaging software to see if it can bring out additional details.
