My Stormtrooper build (suggestions and criticism very welcome!) pic heavy

R2Dan: looks like a promo-shot from the 70ies, well done!

i think i have to take the opportunity to visit you and watch some of your suits, maybe, maybe, one day.... ;)

one question left: why are TKs left handed?

Because if you carry your blaster on the left side, the magazine would rub againt the armor ;)

Sure, you're welcome to stop by any time :)

Sonnenschein already answered the left hand question... it's just that :)

the ESB guys decided to put it on the other side, but then the blaster is holstered reverse, with the grip facing outwards... it's a bit wonky.

Well, the ESB holster took an already awesomely wonky costume and put that extra wonk in it, wonk that in my opinion, was to much wonk :D

I do sport RS armour, that is right, yeah. So you want pics of my set? I don't think I have pics of the individual pieces showing how they are put together... I could take some of the sets that I'm currently building over the weekend though.

In the meantime, here's one of me and my buddy ObiHahn, both wearing our RS suits. I'm the one in the front... (I know it's not much of a reference shot, still thought I'd share it ;))

That's a fantastic pic. As was already pointed out, it looks like a promo shot from '77. :thumbsup

Been struggling with these calfs! They are not easy. They dont have the overlaps on the front side so you have to allign the to halfs perfectly when gluing and pray it doesnt move when drying. I actually took the whole thing apart and redid them. The cover strip i tried to allign it best I could still looks off to one side but i noticed the edge that goes along the top is longer on one side then the other.

I got frustrated and bought a crap ton of magnets and bungie cords to help keep the two halfs from moving.

Gluing the cover strip now on the first calf

Wow! my thread took off when I wasnt looking haha. My helmet is a efx helmet, like I mentioned I'm having a friend put some fans in for me and making it a bit more screen accurate. So right now I dont have it in front of me to take some pictures as requested.

Also I ran into a problem...I noticed the calf armor is just about the same length as my actual calf. Which makes it ride over my knee slightly and is digging into the bottom of my foot...any suggestions ? I'm thinking im going to have to attempt to trim the bottom so it fits better. As it sits now it will be very hard to walk in with it covering my knee

Just a suggestion. If you dont know what your doing like my self :) DO NOT use zap-a-gap...I bought some gloves and rubber hand armor and tried using the zap-a-gap to glue it to the outside of the glove. Well I managed to spill the zap-a-gap and get it ALL over my hands and it dried in like 10 seconds. I had so much glue on my hands I couldnt bend ,my fingers. I was a bit in a panic for a few minutes and almost considered going to the hospital because no matter what I used (nail polish remover, gas, spirits) nothing would take it off.

Not even that but I've had to tear apart almost everything I've done atleast 2-3 each untill i figured out exactly how to do it correctly. The e-6000 allows you to make mistakes and fix it because it peals off where as the zap-a-gap you have like 10 seconds until its permanent. The e-6000 is idiot proof and well...I'm an idiot so it works HAH
Thank for the advice, I registered today, but was lurking for about 3-4 month, went through Youtube tutorials, got zap-a gap E 600 and all of what I needed. I hope to do a good job, I have small scale airplane and Anime robot kit building background, thi is such a big scale that with a dremel and the right tools at hand houldn't be such a mess to start....hope so:lol And the FX is pre-trimmed too.

I want to measure very accurately before making big mistakes, since I want to risk with zap a gap and accelerant!

Let's try, FX is pretty cheap so at least if I'll mess too much I'll have an excuse to buy a RS prop:facepalm and be waay mooore screen accurate!!:lol

Alberto

LOL...:lol
I know that, the thing is that I don't really want to wait 24 hours each step! I'm too impatient for that!! Consider I also have the accelerant!!
We'll see!
You can tease me after I've done too many mistakes and regret this!! You have definitely my permission since You've been so patient to stand my hyjacking!!

Regards,

Alberto

Yeah waiting does suck. Which is why I got a few days from updating this thread. Like I've said Ive re-done these calfs 3 times already so if i used the zap-a-gap I would be screwed. As impatient as I am I want to do this right and I dont want to screw something up thats not repairable so for me the e-6000 is a big help. Each piece of armor seems to have a different trick I seem to have to figure it out before I get the piece perfect.so the ability to rub off the glue and re-do it really helps.

And I dont mind the Hijacking love reading about this stuff so doesnt bother me :)

Really proud of the way this came out....Still have to make a cover strip for the back but the front is basically done. I left some excess cover strip hanging from the bottom. I'm guessing im going to have to trim these a bit on the bottom so it fits my left better so for now I will leave it be. Going to have a buddy look at it for me and see what I should do to correct the issue

Looks like ti came out nice!

You are right about the trimming required. You can also make U shaped cutouts on the back on top of the shin and the bottom of the thigh where your knee bends, this will allow you to move more naturally without pinching the crap out of your skin there.

What did You use for removing the E6000 without leaving surface scratching marks?? I'm curious!

Alberto

Just picked it off and used my thumb or a wash cloth to rub it off...It eventually comes off and doesnt leave any scratches. Also once im finally done putting everything together I have some plastic scratch remover/polisher that im going to use on the whole thing

Yes, E6000 just comes off with a rubbing finger. It hold things together awesome if you wait for it to dry, and oddly enough you can rub it off with a finger! It almost defies logic.

As far as cleaning up the plastic after the build, look for Novus 1, 2, 3. Most times you only need 2 and 1, as 3 is for big scratches, 2 is for fine scratches and 1 is polish. If you run #2, then #1, it will shine up really nice!

Yep have a few bottles waiting for when ever i complete the build

Glued the back cover strip on the left calf. This calf is more or less done for right now. I left the excess cover strip hanging off the bottom. Going to have my buddy help me trim the bottom so it fits my leg better. I'm also trying to decide which sniper plate to glue on it.....classic white or dirty sandtrooper.....decisions decisions...

Trimmed and sanded the right calf. Now gluing the inner strength strip. Its amazing how much easier this is the second time around. Hopefully I can do the whole calf in one shot and wont have to pull it apart 5 times like I did the first calf
