i havent given up on this thing. the more i work on it, the more i want to get working on another one. ive been too busy to take pictures of my progress. here's where im at
first here's the helmet
what you can see, is ive resined the outside and i have hairs from mat prep work on the inside for thickness/sturdiness.
here's the inside of the helmet
so, what you cant see, is all the magical frustrating cutting i had to do to get it satisfactory. i cant believe how many problems ive had with this thing. i ended up cutting a vertical inch line every inch to get it so i can form it into the shape its supposed to be, because it did a wonderful job of warping again. anyway after i was satisfied with that, i resined another later on the inside and called it quits.
a few days ago i woke up with a bug in my ear telling me i need to reinforce the inside with chop mat, by spraying a layer of spray glue and putting them in to stick. so, i'll resin that and then call it "set for sanding." where i'll strictly be sanding, and filling the outside of the helmet.
here's a side view because that particular area towards the chin wanted to be a jerk, so i cut it out completely and filled it in. i win helmet. i beat you.
i also have been trying to figure out how im going to approach the fin. its thicker in some areas than in the front.
hey look, its that flappy part with hoses that goes to the control gauntlets!
so, as you can see, its still waiting for rivets and the whole where the button will come through. in the back of my mind i figured out a way to put this together, and wire it up. it involves two switches from radio shack, and two sharpie caps. where im stumped is how im going to keep it attached to the glove while im sewing, and when it's done being sewn. im also far from pro sew man.
also, my buttons are red and black. not really photo worthy yet, but red button's for the led's im going to try to get wired into it(using a dollar store sword's board). im planning on wiring atleast the black one in the right gauntlet by halloween, which will run the fan.
and now updates on the pack itself:
the red circles illustrate where i had to remove the tube, that involved taking a cutting disk (yay for aircompressors!) and cutting out where it didnt sit flush to the bowl, trimming down the foam(there was foam inside) and bondo-ing it smooth.
the green circle illustrates why in the future i will be doing a new one. the vent on the right booster is a hair too high. i dont know how that happened, because i made sure it sat right before i drew it in (i went as far as drawing up how the vents'll look in autocad, also how im going to make them now that i cut out the holes) not to mention, where that upside down t is, is completely wrong.
that single part of this whole project, next to the center cosmetic plate area, has been the absolute most incredibly outstanding pain in the ass. its either i make a new pack, or i go back to this part and hack the crap out of it again after halloween, which is probably what i'll do.
i also figured out the cones for the tips of the boosters. they'll require some resin, before i attach them.
so thats where im at right now with this thing. far from done, close to done, but not in a happy middle.
