My mpc just went up in value

This is from the latest PIH catalog. this is the miniature used for the shots of luke in certain scenes in the ESB. Note the RED 3 paint scheme , which confirms that red 3 was indeed a stand in for red 5 and they matched this with the larger for the film. cool stuff. check out the expected auction price. anyone wanna buy an MPC X-Wing?

(TCF, 1980) Though a few other X-Wing resistance fighters flash by near film’s end, there is only one, Luke Skywalker’s, which is featured throughout this entry in the epic Star Wars saga. As per facsimile LOA included, this miniature (12 in. x 11 in. x 2 in.) effects-shots model was “made at ILM in San Rafael and was used on a number of multi-element motion control shots”. Modeling credit is attributed to Mike Fulmer and Wesley Seeds. The coloring, weathering, blast marks, and the presence of a tiny “R2-D2” indicate this to be an effects-model for Luke’s hero craft. So the MPC is not only screen accurate, it's also studio scale. Cool. Of course they were used in Jedi too. The canon tips are oriented wrong, the old Kenner electronic X-Wing was the same way.

Yeah I knew they were used in Jedi and there's a bunch of them in the archives but this is the first time I've ever seen this one outside of the film. May have to do my MPC like this me thinks.

Yeah finding out it was a hero model from ESB definitely gives it more cred. It's like seeing the Imperial shuttle at the end of the ESB Blu Ray. I always considered it a Jedi Model But now i see it in both... To me at least... Gives it more cred.

This really is a great model isn't it?It is interesting that the tip
of the laser cannons are mounted wrong,but this should be correct if you build this.
By the way,according to the Cinefex book,they even used kenner's X-wing for the scene of the fire works in ROJ.Anyway,thanks for sharing.

A discussion Here of the Screen Used MPCs has ID'd a Red 2, 3, 4, and 6. So it's great to add Red 5 to that list! :cool

However, I am not too sure that the cost of the MPC is going to go up, it has been known that the kit was used in ESB and Jedi for a little while now with no real increase in value thank goodness

I'm pretty sure the idea of it going up in value is a bit of humor. So many of these things were made that they are about as common as anything else out there.

While I am not completely doubting the auction listing, as I recall Luke's X-wing in ESB still had the broken side stripe on its nose (such as in that shot of it approaching Bespin). It kind of makes me wonder if this MPC bird might have been seen in the final fleet scene instead (unless it was perhaps repainted for use in ROTJ after it was used in ESB).

Ya I was joking, the info on the used MPCs seemed to have been around for awhile now. I can't imagine them jumping up in price. Although original vintage 1st release boxes of mpc kits seem to command quite the price compared to the reissues.

That could be more due to the boxes than the plastic inside. The first run X-Wing kits were done in a bigger box than the subsequent issues. Aside from that though, the box art used for the kits from the first Star Wars films were actually pretty cool IMHO as they complimented the poster artworks used back then rather nicely.

And in the case of the Millenium Falcon, one of the best photos of the original five foot model. And only to be replaced by a photo of the smaller model in subsequent AMT Ertl offerings.

Always liked the MPC kits myself. But sheesh, when the FX team moved from Van Nuys they forgot all the X Wings.

Asteroid sequence? Does anyone know which part of the asteroid sequence this was used in - The Falcon is too blurred in alot of the shots?
