My mpc just went up in value

I have still have two original MPC X-Wing models I got as a kid. The other one will not be touched as it's still in it's original ca. 1979 paint and looks nice, but the other one, identical, but bought a little later, has been stripped from paint and is ready for a rebuild (with some added bits).

Funny thing, back then there were very little photoreference of the X-Wing available, no VHS, not much anything. Not to me anyway. I only had (still have) this poster that had the X-Wing on the top. The lighting of the model in that poster made the cone piece look golden and, even though I'd seen the movie a few times, that's how I thought the X-Wing was painted for many years. :D

It is exciting to know the MPC's were used in Empire, I will never look at my X-Wings again without knowing this. Wonderful!

So was all the smaller models Mpc kits? Ties, tie interceptors ect...
Are all the Mpc kits the same?

AFAIK it was only the Falcon and X-Wings. The other MPC kits were not out until after the films release. The white ties are the metal Kenner ones.

It's the same kit inside the box - just the box art is different. The ILM makers of ESB and RoTJ would've had the second one you posted.

The later release also had recessed panel lines.

I remember when that subject came up a few years ago and I didn't believe a raised panel line one even existed like that until I saw pictures of it. Near as I can tell, it was a VERY EARLY run of it and every X-Wing kit I've come across since then (first movie boxed ones) has had recessed panel lines. I suppose it is also possible that two X-Wing molds were made, given how "flying off the shelves" popular Star Wars stuff became internationally as the MPC kit was issued in many countries by different companies (Denys Fisher, Mecanno, Harbert and a few others).

By the time Empire was in pre-production, recessed panel line X-Wings would have been the norm and likely used by the effects modelers.

I just bought an ERTL "in flight display" (the clear plastic disc thingy) is that the MPC kit in the box?
