I have still have two original MPC X-Wing models I got as a kid. The other one will not be touched as it's still in it's original ca. 1979 paint and looks nice, but the other one, identical, but bought a little later, has been stripped from paint and is ready for a rebuild (with some added bits).
Funny thing, back then there were very little photoreference of the X-Wing available, no VHS, not much anything. Not to me anyway. I only had (still have) this poster that had the X-Wing on the top. The lighting of the model in that poster made the cone piece look golden and, even though I'd seen the movie a few times, that's how I thought the X-Wing was painted for many years.
It is exciting to know the MPC's were used in Empire, I will never look at my X-Wings again without knowing this. Wonderful!
