Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - El Capitan Theater 03-06-10

You can also see that Mr. Right has a few added graphics towards the middle of the shoe on the inside. Appears to be a devil of some sort?

Swords, knives, and daggers OH MY!!! Shout out to Sword and Stone! I think me mate Charlie said they could make you a MH two handed sword for about.........oh............$8000.00.:eek
IMG_2360.jpg
So they used a Witchking sword (from LOTR) with a different blade as a stunt sword? Interesting... So, now I have an AIW prop too!:)
:lol

Nice pic, can't wait for the hi-res!;):thumbsup
I want to make an accurate (as close as possible) digital pattern for the mad hatter hat, and then share it with everyone who need it so it can be laser-cut into your favourite leather/pleather/fabric/material/whatever you want:)

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - El Capitan Theater 03-06-10

I actualy was thinking about the sword myself, and the first thing I thought of was the Ringwraith Halloween sword I used to have. :lol Found it, and it was frakken broke!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - El Capitan Theater 03-06-10

Thank you for the pictures , Capn! I plan on adding the hat to my collection ( I really don't plan on doing the whole costume since I already costume as the BTAS hatter.)

Yes that indeed looks like a LOTR sword....

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

During the premiere my costume took on three tragedies!

(1) The hat did a double gainer off me head and thus the tweaking requirements.
(2) I lost my ring pin within 20 minutes of hitting Hollywood Blvd
(3) My bandolier ring broke but is an excuse to reduce the spool size.

So the hat was dismantled, being reblocked, adding smaller wire, and leather stain being touched up.

Thick wire used in frame. Way to thick to the point I wasn't able to get the leather stretched over it to conceal it.

Regluing the edges inside the hat. I will eventually line it with silk or some sort of rayon. Pink of course!

Top and bottom pieces of the brim. Since I was in a hurry I didn't get any construction photos. The wire will be sewn into the two pieces in order to allow for bending of the brim. Hat 2.0 may have a wider brim but that is another story!

Once the barge glue has dried I will rewet the dome and reblock it to give it a better shape and try to work out some of the damage form the double gainer!

Also underneath the leather punch pad is the top of the hat being flattened out. The rain from Saturday night slightly warped the shape but it is fixable.

I need to sew this piece on as well as construct the ribbon piece on the right side.

Hat pins! I still have two more to make. The birdcage charm will require some tweaking. Removing the bottom and adding a solid base. The last two hat pins are going to be sculpted from FIMO or Sculpey III. I also want to try my had at casting pewter but I don't know when!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

What kind of wire are you using? Looks odd or rather not like millinery wire.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

Odds-bodkins, matey! :eek Glad ye've recovered from th' disastrous maiden voyage!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

Home Depot Millinery!! No millinery in the LA area so I had to go with simple wire. I have newer wire that is smaller gauge and will still be able to hold the shape.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

Hat 2.0 Does this mean you're gonna be getting rid of your first one? (hint hint)
I picked up one up at Hot Topic. Not bad at all for $25. Much better quality than the one at Spencers. It's just not accurate at all and needs heavy mods to look like the movie version. Always wanted an oversized mad hatter hat and the price was too good to walk away.

If you're gonna give it a go at casting pewter try MicroMark. They have all that you need to do it. They have tin soldier molds so you'd have to do your own but there are some high heat RTV that will handle the low metal heat made for projects as this.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

The buttons quest for the coat begins. Found the first one! Identical!:love Just a little added red smeared on top!!!

I have found others that are similar or very close but they will still require some mods!

if you want for a flat fee of 150 i can dress that hat up for you
my current hat is made from a Hot topic hat

course hatpins and scarf are extra, but i drop the material fee cause you already have a wearable hat base

If I had the cash I'd say okay just to save time but I was thinking more so a trade for a leather if anyone has one. Any pix of yours and how large was your scarf? Did you find a scarf or did you just use fabric.

I DID find fabric that is almost a dead on match for the one we've been seeing in all the promos posters and what not.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W.I.P. Hat tweaking

heres my hat, once i make a new one ill probably sell this one
(minus a few of my hatpins of course)
it even has the accurate coral lining with embroidered 8 point stars, just like the movie one

i made the scarf, and it goes just to the square of my back

oh and Savvy. i noticed that you dont have a striped patch for your hat, it you wish it i could make you one for like 10 bucks
heres what mine looks like
