Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! 02-25-10

dry erase markerrrrssss!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! 02-25-10

correction, the one for $123 and $179 are not even accurate. Cheapest CORRECT one is over $200 without a lid and almost $400 with!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! 02-25-10

You could either drop it, or play piggy bank with it. :p

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Hat staining or dying! 02-25-10

I bet they go up in price after the movie comes out....

We stole your thread again UM! :p

First coat of spray on dye completed. Pictures make it come out to be much greener. I will be applying another layer of antique tan and wipe it down quick to get the dye into the holes.

I added the first layer of wax sealer when I realized I should go a little bit browner. Removed the wax and now the leather is drying!!! :confusedI want to match the color closer to the brim pieces.

Next?
Finish to top, stain, just bought some leather grade needles, sew in the gold thread (my first time at a sewing machine!), and construction!!!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Hat staining or dying! 02-25-10

Wow, very cool! So what did you use to punch the holes?

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Hat staining or dying! 02-25-10

Looks AMAZING! We all need to invest in some sweet cameras to capture the colours of our beautiful costumes! I hate how flash makes it vary so much. But it looks like it's FANTASTIC in person. Beautiful blending and I love the customization with the hidden significant items. Billion thumbs up!!!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Hat staining or dying! 02-25-10

I'm completely blown away by your work on this costume. It's amazing seeing you build this all up from scratch. Do you have a lot of experience in scratch-building costumes? That hat is coming along great! Also, it's so cool to see this happen before the movie has even come out.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Coat! Coat! Coat! 03-05-10

Boy! Pulling all nighters and going to work the next day for 8 hours just for a costume!!! Ugh this is bordering on obsessive costuming disorder!!!

The hat is done and on the drying rack. Barge glue needs to set over night so I didn't touch the thing and I don't have pictures. Pics of the entire ensemble Sat night!!!

Coat is 95% completed. The liner is being added as well as the upper part of the collar. I won't have time to distress it but that will happen after the fact. The coat is being finished as we speak and being hand delivered this evening. Thanks Gelfling Gal!!! Truly "HOT off the presses!"

I love how the coat changes color from light to dark when hit with bright light!

What is left to do: (Sorry this is my To Do list and what a better place to create it!)

1. Finish gloves
2. Create white thumb bandage
3. Create 10/6 for hat
4. Trim down the wig and respray with hair spray yet again.
5. Sew buttons onto coat.
6. Pray I know how to apply the makeup. I didn't even get to do a trial run!!!!
7. Eventually redo design on pants. Replace the red leaf with two swirls!
8. Distress all parts AFTER the premiere!!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Coat! Coat! Coat! 03-05-10

can't wait for pics of the full costume! It looks pretty dang spiffy. Wish I lived close so I could see you in person, good luck!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Coat! Coat! Coat! 03-05-10

i just used stretchy self adhesive gauze tape for the bandage
you can get a ton of it for real cheep and it breaths nicely and will move with your thumb

*pops in* you're welcome friend!

been sleeping since we got home Saturday...saving up energy to finish it completely after your event....

looking forward to making my costume...and how white it will be....

Let it begin!!! I did the make up in 30 minutes because let's just say the coat and gloves were finished in record time 1 1/2 hours before we were supposed to leave. So please excuse the makeup. It gets worse throughout the evening!!:lol

Again thanks to Gelfling Gal /\ for her incredible work!!! While watching the movie all I could do was stare at the coat and think about mine and how every detail in the design, panels, pleats are so spot on!!!

I hope to do another event in about five weeks and have already started the nitpicking detailed changes on my costume!!! Starting with making eyebrows!

After seeing the "hero" costume up close and in person the nitpicking is truly going to drive me MAD!!!

Time for tea!

It was a rather blustery day for us on Saturday. It poured cats and dogs later on that evening as you will see. All those security guys and electrical technicians getting ready for the Oscars on Hollywood Blvd getting wet!

I wished I had known the wind was blowing and the pleats were blowing around. I would have loved to recreated the running movie poster look!
