Hello there and welcome! I am new to theRPF and this in general. I am utilizting both Rebel Legion and theRPF for help and guidance for this costume. So after almost a month and a half of researching and going a little crazy, I have started my journey :) Here is the image of the outfit I am working on. So before I get into the nitty gritty let me explain my skills. I have basic sewing knowledge, sewing patches on my punk jackets and sewing pants back together on tour. This is mostly hand sewing and not with a machine. I do have some very very basic old school Singer sewing machine skills, this Singer was built before a computer could fit into one of these things. Prop making = None.

1. The Shirt. So the first part I looked into was the shirt. I knew this was either going to be easy or difficult.I looked into the McCall's 7760 , no luck. If you come across this pattern, buy it. I had hopes but decided on the McCalls 2233 chef pattern instead. Next is the fabric. This is as far as I have gone, I start a new job tomorrow and will no longer be broke! YAY! So I have some very talented friends who cosplay quite regularly under GraveHeartsCosplay. They have opened my eyes and mind on how crafty you can get for not spending a whole lot, or vice versa. They will be assisting me as often as they can, since they are both working on their Boba Fett and Boushh costumes it will be difficult. So just need to buy the fabric and fasteners and then I begin!

2. The Blood Stripes. The blood stripes I found on here on eBay. I like these ones because they are embroidered and not iron on. The pants need to match this color which is more akin to the brown found on Dickie's work pants.

3. The Pants. So onto the pants! This had to be the vein of my costume hunting. I have been to so many swap meets and used clothing stores looking for pants that already contain at least a riding seam or look the part. No luck. I finally just said just buy a pair of pants!! I lucked out. I was at Macy's and wit their help I found these Dockers D2 Field Khaki Straight Fit Flat Front on sale for $36! I put them on hold, came back a couple hours later with my mom (she had coupons galore for Macy's) and they couldn't find them. So I scored free shipping and only paid $31! I could not find these pants online, but I promise they are at Macy's in the dockers section. When they arrive I will post obviously.

4. The Riding Seam and Pin Tuck. I have saved a riding seam tutorial and pin tuck tutorial from either here or the Rebel Legion and will attempt both. I also have to remove the dockers logo and pockets.

So that covers the shirt, pants, and blood stripes.

5. The Belt, Buckle and Holster. The belt and holster, I have found on Corellian Imports and elsewhere. I messaged a guy on Rebel Legion that makes a very nice holster. I also messaged Darman's Props on facebook. I want to do most of this myself and from scratch. I feel that even if it didn't come out 120% accurate I would feel a great sense of accomplishment, something I need in my life right now. So depending on budget, I will either use the vinyl fabric and make a basic one, or even buy the leather and make this beast myself. I know leather is a demon but I think I can do it! The belt I might buy from Corellian Imports because it already has the button fastener (no idea what it is actually called) for the holster to attach to. The buckle will either be made, purchased or made with that metal tape stuff.

6. The Lightsaber. I have a ANH Master Replicas Luke lightsaber. I took it apart trying to get the blade out, and now that we can't bring lightsabers I have to re-assemble it. I got everything off minus the charging brass pins. I don't have a 3mm tool. I might do a hardware store build as I have a friend who works at Home Depot who probably could help me cut everything. I also do not have any experience with metal cutting or machining. I have friends that I need to ask, but I think I might be alone on this. One day I'll order a replica graflex and parts.

7. The Defender Sporting Blaster Pistol. The blaster. I've thought about just doing the Luke ESB blaster but I want to join the Rebel Legion, so onto this insane quest. So the blaster Luke uses is the same blaster that Princess Leia used on Tantive IV. It is a Margolin .22 target pistol modified. I would LOVE to make a working one, one day. They don't make airsoft or toys modeled after this gun. I found that you can either use a Beretta M9 or Walther P38 airsoft pistols and add greeblies(my first time typing greeblies!) to it. Found plenty of airsoft metal guns on eBay. Will be going with the P38 in metal. I have a friend who has a 3D printer but I have thought about using Shapeways to get metal parts, but due to time constraints and the fact that I have never even looked into how to 3D print anything, I'll probably use 6mm Foamies and 3D printed pieces to make the blaster.

8. The Boots. The boots can be extremely expensive or pretty reasonable. From the research I have done, buying Russian Marching/Parade boots is the way to go. They are all over eBay. Next in line would be the rubber pvc riding boots that look like leather. My only concern here is that purchasing online seems risky. I have never worn boots like this and I have read a lot about the tightness around the calf. The Russian boots run about $60-100, while the rubber pvc can range from $40-60. Feedback on how they hold up over time would be great. Trooping or not.

Alright so this is where I am at. Thank you for reading all this, as I am new I apologize if I was supposed to do this differently or what. Any tips, help, hints, tutorials, anything would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Thank you Iggy for recommending that I divide the text up so it is not just a wall of text.

Holy wall of text batman.

If you broke up this into sections for the different parts (you don't have to post multiple times, or have multiple threads, just break up the text with a few spaces) it would help people.

As far as the blaster, there were a few for decent prices in the Classified section as well as runs.

The boots look like imperial officer boots similar to what Han has as well. You can find equestrian riding boots, but they are not the most comfy to wear walking / trooping etc. PVC is cheap, and will break down over time whereas leather ones are much nicer and will get more comfy the longer you break them in. Indy Magnoli has a very nice pair of those boots, but by the looks of the prices in your thread I would say that is probably out. It just depends on what you are looking to spend.

Yeah....I forgot to space it out. Oops! Sadly Indy Magnoli anything is out due to not having a job. Good to know on the pvc ones. I guess they would be good if you're in a pinch. Thank you again for the reply! :)

For the blaster you might look into the ANH Leia Blaster by Rubies. It is actually really accurate in most details and with a few simple mods it looks just like the high end replicas. Since it only costs about $15 or less it is great way to start without breaking the bank!

It looks like you are on your way to a great costume! Here are a few more photos and some links that may help with the holster. Working with leather is not bad and this belt and holster is a great project to start with. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will try my best to help.

The buckle can be found at Tandy leather and the correct size is large for a 1-3/4 inch belt. http://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/oval-buckle-blank

The snaps are line 24 snaps - http://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/line-24-snaps

Chicago screws can be used to hold the straps from the belt to the holster - http://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/chicago-screws

The metal loops are rounded single loops for one inch straps - http://www.buckleguy.com/2023-1-polished-brass-single-loop-solid-brass/

The toy Princess Leia blaster that came out recently would be great for this costume and is not expensive - http://www.halloweencostumes.com/pr...9VGJm-HU6WtbhJ4_B76NPgLfw701HrTzW4aApjo8P8HAQ

Thank you Uncharted!!! I was about to look into what each piece for the holster I would need to buy, and you laid it all out for me! I scored some "defect" vinyl from a fabric store for $5.99 a yard. Nice and thick. Has a water stain when looked at in a certain light. I bought 3 yards to mess around with and get my basic ideas down and practice! So excited! Egon, thank you for saying that! Makes me a little more confident in my choices!

I also reached out to a friend I had forgotten is crafty and loves to sew/make things. She helped me figure out how to make some sweet foam armor and boots. Using some of these ideas might work out for my boots, if I cannot afford them before the movie premiere. I like the Rubies gun but for some reason I want a movable trigger. Since I cannot bring a lightsaber or blaster, I think I'll opt for the Rubies for now. If anyone knows of a great beginners painting and weathering (?) props, that would be great. I have a rubies Rebels Stormtrooper blaster that I bought to learn this on. I just sprayed some Rust O Leum Satin Paint and Primer in one and it came out pretty decent. I just put newspaper down and sprayed and flipped with a stick. I would love to learn how to do a better job without getting paper stuck to the paint, better paint and detailing. Mind you though, I am a super beginner. I mostly have lived within the step by step process and my brain would freak out if I couldn't read exactly how to do everything. I am learning to break free from this obviously but I am still learning :) Thanks again! I will post a picture of the vinyl in a bit once I get it uploaded to Imgur

Thank you for helping me realize that for a starter blaster build, this is perfect! Any hints on how to cut the plastic apart down the seam?

For help with painting props I highly recommend the ebook by Volpin Props that is available in the RPF store!

Everything you need to know to mod the blaster is in this thread!

Awesome guys! Thanks so much. So I scored 4 yards of black broadcloth for $3.99 a yard and a 50% off coupon. Spent $8. Yes! So tonight I order the holster pieces and blood stripes :)

I had a chance to work on the Luke Yavin holster this week and wanted to share a few photos and information. After working on the pattern for the holster I realized that the belt is actually two inches wide instead of 1-3/4 inches as I mentioned before. This means the size of the small straps on the belt and holster are also a little larger. I'm working on a write-up on how to make the holster and hope to have that up soon. Hope your costume build is going well!

Paul

The holster looks great Uncharted! Where did you acquire the belt? I will be most likely purchasing a pair of costumebase pants off ebay for $50 and altering them with the pintuck and riding seam and adding my own bloodstripes. I am still on the fence with the blaster. I can score a rubies or do the 3D printed by AprilStormProps on Etsy. Only problem is time and not having done any gluing, sanding and painting on a 3D prop before. I have most of the guides saved that I have found. Might just go with Rubies to save time since it requires less work. I also would need to attach a lightsaber hook to the belt, I have seen them somewhere, but I can't remember what website. I'll post pictures of the shirt tonight since I haven't seen anyone post a step by step on the shirt using an alternate pattern. I am going to go with no interfacing and see how it comes out. :)

Thanks! I made the belt using 8-9 oz. Leather and the Tandy buckle blank. Tandy Leather has a water based black dye that works great for the belt and holster. The screen used holster did not have the lightsaber hook but I know of two places That sell them if you want to add it. The first is http://www.saberbelt.com/SaberHook.htm - I have purchased these before and have been very happy with the quick service. The second one is http://wannawanga.com/products/belt-clip/ I have not purchased from this site yet but the hook looks a little bit more accurate to me.
