My LOTR display

Oh good.. I hope they are available for a while. I'm hoping to get a bit more work now that I'm on holidays, so I should be able to save quite a bit by Feb :D Who knows, by then the exchange rate might be better, and it will be cheaper for me :D

A couple more quick pics of my copy on display. I bought a licensed Acacia Guiseppe 'One Ring'' to add to the display:

WOW. :eek :eek :eek ... I can't believe I didn't see this earlier. GREAT book. I'd love some very close up shots of any sword sketches/descriptions if that's not a problem. Thanks.

Thank you. If I may go so far to ask another question, would you please post the text to that page? I couldn't read most of it although it does seem to be a paraphrased version of the book's text. Thanks in advance.

Enjoy.

Thank you very much. :) I would've made Anduril's pommel a little bit longer since it looks mushed together in that sketch. I'd love to have one, I just gotta know how much to save since I've been wanting to get SEVERAL things lately from a few books, to some Scottish claymores, to a very good looking Highlander Ramirez/Connor katana replica, and finally to this so I'll be on a VERY tight saving budget. Thanks for the info.

Edited question since it was answered earlier in this thread.

Well, you have to remember this is Frodo's interpretation of the story and the experience, not meant to be presented as an artists rendition of the movie prop.

The sketches, drawing's and maps by Indy are absolutely stunning IMO and carefully presented (in terms of style, ink/pencil etc.) to represent the perspectives of the characters 'drawing' them - likewise, the writing styles and 'voices' of each contributing character has been carefully worked on and well thought through.

It's a great prop replica (over two years in the making.) - you won't regret owning a copy. :thumbsup

Ressurecting this old thread to post a new pic of my current display, still a display-in-progress...

Here's how it's looking so far. Still a few other pieces to wall-mount yet.

Onkelpsycho, the new sting pics are really for you because you asked - yup, that's the hampton version. I've owned quite a few stings in my time, this one's really not too shoddy. Not perfect, but hey...

Al

PSss - I should add that I have beaten up the sheath a bit and leather conditioned it to give it more of the slick, worn look of the original. I've also slightly weathered sting and wire-wooled the detailing a little.

Really nice, I think fpr that price its ok... Man, this month I have to order a lot... I thought about to get a red book of westmarch, too, of course its a lot of money at one time...

But I think the best I could do, is do get the stuff first I had on the list for some longer time...

ah... my sword arrived today...

Well... Ok... Lets start with: It cost me only 30€ ($20-25)... Including shipping!!!

So, what can I expect?!? I dont want to sound disappointed, but...

Serious. The sword is ok. The blade looks good, it is not sharp, but the inscription is ok, and the scabbart is nice, too. The metal is not the best, but its really well made for this price... The grip is the problem... Its ok, but its painted with an edding. :rolleyes Thats a little bit strange. When i touched the grip first time my hand was silver from the silver leafs, painted on the grip. The leafs are gone, now... :lol

So finally i have to rework the grip, it can only be better. But if someone sells cheap swords, he should take water-resistant eddings... :lol

There is no problem with the scabbart, ok for this price, and I get a ring with elvish letters for free to my sword. The ring... Ah, i dont want to talk over that thing... every toy-ring fpr $6 looks better. Its just a metal piece, rolled and finished with the inscription. the ring is brazed on two sites and looks crappy, just crappy.

But for that price I think the whole sword is ok, but maybe no ring instead of this ring i got...

The grip was the only part which is not that, was I expected...

Im really excited to see how the other swords will look... :lol

Yeah, I gave the ring to my kids and repainted the elven vine on my grip yeterday with the correct pattern.

Looks much better.

It's just a placeholder for a UC version, if I can find one at a decent price.

My eldest daughter is a big LOTR fan too, so this sword will eventually go to her for her bedroom LOTR display.

Yeah...

Well, i dont want to spend so much money for swords. Of course the UC are the real deal, I have the Legolas Knives from UC, and I want a second pair for my costume. Same for the Gandalf sword, only need it for the costume i want to make... they dont have to be sharp and i dont want to go to war with that swords... :lol I think its the ame like prop replicas. There are replicas, which are great creations, but of course there are a few people woh make ppor quality, but you can make 'em better with some work... After all I save money, and thats important for me... ;)

So its ok, but the grip is the part the most people look at, so I think it should be repainted in every case... Hopefully the other swords got a better paintjob.

BTW: What you have used for the repainting? Some kind of pen or painted it with a bruch and silver colour?!?

Yeah, I used a silver humbrol and a tiny brush.

It took a good while but it turned out really ok.

:thumbsup

Cool - one bit of advice, take all the original silver off - it's really more of a hindrance than a help!

I just picked up a nice UC sting from another member here so I guess my girl will get this sting sooner than I thought! :)
