Here is my esb vader helmet.
It's a don post recast which I bought off fleabay.
When it arrived I was less than pleased with the paintwork as it seemed to of melted during it's journey to me.
So I embarked on a mission to repaint it/ lower the dome mount (to a much more accurate position) and put some metal tusks on it.
Here is the process from start to finish.
Pictures from the auction.
What actually turned up.
The paint was so soft I could actually scrape it off without any chemicals.
Paint removed.
New dome mount position marked off.
Facemask primed and ready for paint.
The finished result after painting. I am very pleased with results.
Shame I forgot to take pictures of the masking process (it was a ******* of a job).
I gave it 3 coats of primer then wet sanded it back with a 1500 grit paper.
I then gave It 3-5 coats of gloss black and cut that back by wet sanding with 1500 grit.
I then masked the areas I wanted to keep black (this took ages to get a good job). And gave it 3 very light coats of gunmetal grey.
After masking was removed and the paint had fully cured (about a week) I gave the entire mask 5 coats of clearcoat.
Once fully cured (again about a week) I cut the clearcoat back with a 1500 grit wet sand, then a 2000 grit the a 2500 grit wet sand.
After this I used a cutting compound to get a nice shine to it then I gave it 3 coats of wax. Buffed and job done!!
