Re: MrBibou's Amazing Spider-Man Comic suit - original design
Thanks for all these comments guys, it really means a lot to me.
Here's some update I bet you've be waiting to see.
Zippers arrived so the sewing part could finally get to a term.
I did a quick test with a boot piece I drawn and found out that it was way too large for me as I have pretty thin legs. I had to modify the piece a lot and in the end, it looked like this :
I cut it this way so I could sew the bottom part of the boot to a cheap pair of dancing shoes I bought.
They didn't have my size in black so I took a white pair but no worries, I'll paint the sole red. All suits I saw here have black soles, so to give my suit a bit more of my touch, I'll make them red. It will be even more comic accurate then.
Quick test fit. This reminded me so much of a cheap superman outfit I had when I was a child with red fabric over lapping my actual shoe. Ah nostaligia, here I am few years later and fully grown up doing the same thing again with a Spider-Man shoes.
Had to hand stitch the fabric as close as I could to the soles as it would be to hard to do a clean job with the machine.
Few hours later, I can finally chill in my shiny boots !
I strongly recommend you to put a zipper on the side of your boot, it will make it a LOT easier to get into.
Then, I took my sharpie back and slapped some webs on these madafakas !
Noticed how the webbing is different on each shoe ? The thing is, on all my suit, the left and right side were never exactly sewn with the same tension everywear, resulting in having some parts bigger or smaller and even misalined from a side to the other.
This is why my web pattern isn't symetrical but in the end, it's not that noticeable. The suit ain't perfect, but that's the approach I'm approching right ?
Some hand design !
I never was found of Raimi's pattern or even TASM2's for the palm.
I wanted something more original and took a lot of inspiration from Braddo's suit, which was one of the many suits that motivated me to get through my build.
`
Don't worry, my hand ain't as big as this, I was wearing a big wool glove underneath to make sure the glove would be stretched and to protect my hand from the sharpie.
Mine looks terrible in comparison, but at least it's unique
Then comes the cool part, the front spider of course !
I've seen tons of designs and I always liked the simpliest one. Just like the back spider, these are the two logos that come to my mind when I ear Spider-man.
All the suits I've seen featured a really HUGE front spider, from Raimi to Webb or even Orhadar, all these designs had a really big front spider but I grew up with a Spider-Man with a really small emblem, and that's what I wanted for my suit.
I printed different sizes and picked up the one I liked, cut it of ..
.. traced the outlines ..
And sharpied it to the death !
I can tell you that once that part was done, I was having one of those nergasm moment.
Then, I went to the lenses.
I cut the mesh from my previously painted place mat and glued it to the frame using some super glue.
Note that I had to curve the lenses with a hair-drier to make them fit my face better before I glued the mesh.
Used superglue again to glue them on the mask.
This was probably the worst part of the build, as I know I could ruin it by misalining the frame, making Spidey have a derpy look.. It took my time, shaked a lot and eventually..
Just an upside down teasing for now.
Just kidding, I can't let you with this right ? I completed the webbing on the mask, let the glue cured for the day and had some fun with my nephew who loves Spidey as much as I do. Maybe not as much but he was pretty excited.
And my fav shot :
I'm really happy to see how it turned out. I know I did some mistakes in the webbing but looking at the pics, they're not even that noticeable.
The french The Amazing Spider-Man 2 official facebook page recently posted a contest where you had to make a video of yourself and at some point, take your mask off to reveal your identity to someone and film it. The winner will be determine by votes and you know what's up for the first place ? A freaking trip to New York !
As a french Spidey fan I always wanted to get my feet where my hero lived through the pages I read when I was a child. Going there would be just beyond dreams for me, just so I could do this scene :
Joke aside, I took the opportunity to take some footage with my nephew and got everything on tape. I now have to edit everything, make some fun video to watch and count on you guys who hopefully enjoyed following this build to share the future video and help me win.
This would be just amazing (pun intended) thinking I got there thanks to Spidey and the help of the community where everything started for me few years ago, searching how to make a Spider-Man costume.
Stay tunned guys, you'll hear of that video in a few days, I count on you
