MR X-Wing

Ok but why I would have to pay for the MR's paintjob + my own paint to repaint it ?

It would be better if they would offer the 2 options : Painted and To paint (cheaper of course).
I never understood why manufacturers couldn't offer that option.
After all each item has to pass through a series of checks in the production process. All you do is pull the requested number of units at the primer stage.
Corgi offered a similar option(name?) on their diecast TOS E, so it isn't like they are not aware of what people want.
I'll bet they don't, which is a shame. After all MR could care less as long as the inventory moves.

My guess is it is because of agreements with Lucasfilm.

Unpainted probably would make it a "kit" and others have the rights to kits.

I agree with Frank some photos of this would make you cry. The build up of MR's is very nice and no doubt there are details on it that have never been known before and the proper kits were scavenged for these parts.

This model is not like anything you've had before and it's not a rehash of the same old definitely a leap ahead for the fans to own this.

This X-wing model has NOTHING to do with the larger ROTJ version. Don't know where that rumor started but there's NO basis in truth to it.

All diims were taken directly from a first gen original body, just corrected for symmetry. Original kit parts were scoured by a team of dedicated folk, like Frank and Moe, with assistance from others. And a boat load of phtographic reference was used to model this piece. The cockpit is an amalgamation of versions (model vs FS), as were the snowspeeder and Falcon cockpits. Oh and the wings open and close.

The modeling is pretty sharp, and this thing is a big beast. As Frank said in an above post, we saw the almost final version last week and the last couple of tweaks are now being made before it heads off into production.

"heads off into production"

MAN That is what I want to hear!!!

Hoping for a Mark Hamill sig edition for this one.

Thank you for the continued info Barry. ;)

Down to the brass tax...

When is the target release date for the beastie since it is so close to production? Or... when is it expected to be announced and orderable?

Feeling a bit frustrated...I feel compelled to comment and question further...

I must admit that I am still surprised that MR has decided to go through with this project. It makes me wonder what is left in the arsenal for surprise release before licensing expires. :love If memory serves... there was an X-1 and a Slave 1 at some point being strongly considered. And possibly a B-wing? I may have that confused with the F&M private project, but my point being that hearsay has been all over the board since Corgi took point.

There are key pieces that collectors are looking for. I had heard, at some point, that MR was going to do some of them. Then I heard they shelved them. Now at least one is back on again and close to production. Secrecy is only good to those who wish it to be secret.. otherwise it gets a bit wishy-washy.

Be it MR, or any other creator...when things get like that, I start going into my own mode of getting what I wish to have in the collection by having them created privately, and accurately by artists I know will get the job done. And I am not alone in the ability to make that happen. There will always be sales lost due to not being forthcoming of what the true plans are.

Please don't think I am on the attack, because I am not. I am simply asking for a reliable source of information from MR (or whomever) so that I, others like me, and basically everyone who clients themselves with MR (or whomever), don't go and spend tens of thousands of dollars having items created that we could have very well purchased from MR (or whomever).

And I don't ONLY mean being forthcoming from MR (or whomever)... I ALSO will include the ability to release the items in an acceptable, timely manner that fit their statements. Some stake claim to making pieces that never end up being made for whatever reason. Those of us who reveared the original release of Star Wars in 77' are mostly now in our forties. For some of us... the time is dwindling away to obtain and enjoy these items. My own objective is to pass them along for the masses to enjoy and discover their own creativity. Especially in the younger artists who are turning toward graphics instead of the real deal.

I don't know the facts of the license between Lucasfilm and MR... and it is really none of my business. What is EVERYONE's business is what we will need to look forward to from those companies.

That said... what does MR have left in it's Star Wars Bullpen? Or is this the last piece?

If I were Grand Moff Tarkin, I would say "I grow tired of asking... where is the Rebel Base?" The Base in this case being whatever is on the planned board. ;)

So can we see?????????????????????

What you mean I can just sell my CC Hero kit that has been gathering dust?

:)

Actually I think it's just the opposite. Frank can slap me silly if I'm wrong, but there are details that most of us assume are universal to all X-Wings that, it turns out, are different on Red 5, and it's going to have those.

Yes its as true to the REAL RED 5 As it can possibly be.

Yes, the cockpit, as it is now, they took some liberties on and tried to make it look more like the Full size Set.

I have my own opinion on that. I can see why they wanted to change it from the model version, and I can also see why some folks would rather it not be changed.

Hoestly, its a bit refreshing to have something different, instead of a nicer version of the ICONS. Its also leads to some really cool customization possibilities if you chose to do so, where with the MODEL version you are kinda stuck.

MonsieurTox,

Hey why not a THIRD VERSION with PREPAINTED MOSS IN IT so we can create the SWAMP scene from EMPIRE.

Tox, it would be nice to have the option wouldnt it? Just primer. But them someone out there would complain of the type of primer they used.

Offering it it two versions would do nothing but drive the price up, as you know PRIMERED version just isnt gonna sell as many and the the cost to accomodate a few doesnt justify the added expense.

I hope you would agree, while fun to think about its a viloation of a basica Business 101 sort of concept.

Frank

Its XWING and HOPEFULLY Slave 1 is all I heard.

Not sure where the Big Mystery is there KK. I think the only DATE you can count on it is its GO TO SHIP By the time the license officially expires!

ha!

:)

I have a couple of those.

Even by today's standards....its an AMAZING kit. Scott really engineered the kit well. He has always inspired me with his mold making skills.

Scott is my modeling "Yoda".

Id hold onto it. If you take the CC and replace the fuselage....you have basically a really accurate representation of the XWING.

I believe Mike had redone the kit. You would have to ask him if he would selll his new fuselage. I also know there are other sources for the body that have been out,....and will be coming out.

Anyone who parts with a CC kit....will kick themselves someday.

Trust me on that one.

Thanks Frank! :)

And agreed sir! ;) There is no big mystery... just frustration on my part. ;)

Having a "generic" version of the X for folks to paint as they will would indeed (in my opinion) gain more complaints than applause due to most of it's client base being folks who don't care to build or paint the beasties they purchase. A sad truth... and I am one of them I am sorry to say. That said.. one could always paint over anything they purchase.. especially if they have the talent that Julein has! ;) :D Who knows? It's not practical at all, but I may end up getting 6 more of these MR X's and have them painted correctly for the collection. LOLOLOL.. I think I am going to be X-Winged out by the time everything goes to display! LOLOLOLOL I never thought I would say that! LOLOLOLOL ;)

I enjoyed our conversation today Frank. It was GREAT to speak with you again! We'll catch up more later this evening or tomorrow while I am traveling. :)

Of one thing I am certain... since you are involved with the MR X-Wing... it is sure to be TOP NOTCH! :D

We ALL appreciate your's and Moe's hard work my friend! Thank You to the both of you for your continued efforts to bring these pieces to the public! :thumbsup :D :thumbsup

Appreciate that! Enjoyed catching up as well.
Re: the Xwing, We had a small part. Like the Falcon, its always a huge team effort with some really talanted folks.

This project is more of GRASS ROOTS effort than anyone realizes.

We just get mentioned here, because well, we are members here and we want to share. Especially when we see come folks being "less than enthusiastic".

I guess you can never please everyone. However, I know most people who get the XWING are gonna love it. Everyone involved should be proud to have contributed and we could not have done it without MANY of the OTHER XWING bubbas who helped. Marc, Jay, Mark, Steve, and Mike!

Bottom line, the Powers that be were wise enough to reference the expertise that exists here with many of our very own members to make sure to "get it right"

I hope some folks keep that it mind before they blast away with critical remarks.

Frank

As great as the expertise and contributions can be from the experts, the
quality of the models that reach the hands of the collectors depends also
on the quality of the manufacturing process - witness the uneven quality of the MR TOS Enterprise.
