MR X-Wing

Then again maybe not... <<Puts thumbs in ears and sticks tounge out.>>

I'm so happy to finally know for sure after all the years of speculation that I was right and that I had found RED 5.

It wasnt stolen or given away as so many others said.

About 8 years ago I was talking With Basher aka Doug about The picture of RED 4 in the "George standing in all of the models" pic I noticed the blast marks matched the one ref picture that I had of Red five plus the grainy details of the trench run matched perfectly. Lastly you could vaugley make out grey paint over boxes covering the 5th red stripe. That pic is a good reference of how dirty Red 5 was. Man.. it's far more beat up than any other X Wing out there thats for sure.

Thanks Frank for the final positive ID on that one. I can now finally move on with my life..

Best Rocky Balboa imitation... " YO... Doug...... I Did it...

I read about this like five years ago (maybe a bit more) and I though the consensus was clear. I mean the dirt and and markings were just the SAME on Red 5 and that Red 4 in the "I'm king of all this" pic. I guess you just don't know for sure untill you know for sure.

Spinner, Yeah there was a lot of talk I was pretty sure but since no one we knew could verify it (Until now) it was a grainy shot of the pic of RED 4 and other grainy shots of Red 5 was our only proof.
Good to finally confirm our specualtions.

At least now I know RED 5 is not sitting in some Imon's palace in Saudi Arabia because he let George stay there one night. Or in the closet of a film executive somewhere.

I cant wait to see what this Team of X perts puts togther.

The "prototype" shown at Toy Fair is an assemblage of original cast parts to give a representation to the industry of what's to come. It is in no way indicative of the final piece, as the actual master model is still being worked on.

The X-wing MR are making is indeed a new version. Built to the dimensions of the original body parts we were supplied with, it is an all new beast, created from original kit parts assembled onto a new body and wings. It's being built by the team who created the AT-AT and the Millennium Falcon. It will have opening wings and lighting effects for the engines and cockpit as previously announced, and will be released in the livery of Luke Skywalker's Red Five.

Sounds great. and expensive...

I think Lee's X-Wing output to be the best, too.

:D
[/b]

Agreed. Lee does very authentic looking paintjobs.

Weathering is very complexe to achieve, most of the weathering jobs I've seen look too clean, they look like new ships intentionally weathered up, it's hard to explain but a good weathering job has to give the effect that it went threw a natural aging and wear process, not just a dirtied up ship with blast marks and different color panels.

I think the prototype looks great.
As far as painting and weathering goes I truly hope they've given the job to Lee. IMO, he's the guy who really nailed how these models were paintd. There's so much more to the X-wing paintjobs then just matching up soot and blast marks. If wrong color of primer is used the rest wil look off and so on. It's all about doing it in layers and choosing the correct type of paints. As I said, Lee's the only guy who truly managed to do this right IMO.

Steve.

BAsed on the teams job done on the Falcon - I know that this X-wing will be the one to have... Not that I'm ditching my CC x-wing but I may repaint it to be Red3 or something ;)

I take it there was no Vader X-1 prototype at Toy Fair?
[/b]

It is not listed in the product plan for 2007 currently shown at the MR website.

It doesn't really matter who does the paint master. You all know you're going to repaint the thing anyway so why worry.

Will matter for many that don't have the skill or spend the extra $ to have it repainted, this will only raise the bar for mass production authentic weathering jobs, we know it won't be exact like the paint master, imagine they would have used a paintmaster made by some joe blow.

Any links or pics of Lee's buildups? I'd like to see what he's done - Xwings are so hard to do well.
Thanks,

No... But the Slave 1 is mentioned on MR's site though... :D Vaders ship isn't listed.

" Now, joining the coveted ranks of past Master Replicas releases like the AT-AT Imperial Walker and Rebel Snowspeeder Studio Scales, fans can clear some shelf space for:

* Boba FettÂ’s Slave One Studio Scale Replica
* Rebel X-Wing, Red 5 Studio Scale Replica"

I'm loving the FX idea and opening wings............that sounds very nice. I just hope they do the paintjob justice. With the current talent on this board, I'm sure the paintjob is at least possible. These guys have documented their painting techniques and should be able to convey that to MR nicely. Heck, If I can understand it, anyone can. :)
