MR X-Wing

I think the ship looks great, I didn't mean to cause a ruckus mentioning the primered version, just thinking out loud. I do like the ultra detailed cockpit as well.

The X-wing looks to be another outstanding offering from MR. Yet, when I think about it, it seems a pity the X-wing should be the last Studio Scale Star Wars offering from MR. Think of what could have been, what we were anticipating...T.I.E. Fighters, Slave 1, a Star Destroyer...the list could go on.

Sure, another company could reach a licensing agreement with Lucasfilm, but whom and when? And if such a company does pick up where MR left off, will their quality be comparable to MR? Quality control issues aside--as I imagine most issues are resolved sooner or later--you must admit MR has made available items beyond our wildest dreams. And is it not for dreams that we are so willing to give in to enormous price tags to have in our possessions the closest replicas of our favorite on-screen icons.

I suppose we should expect that the next company to come along will learn from MR. I think especially of the MR USS Enterprise. What an immeasurable improvement upon a failed and disastrous attempt at such an offering only a few years earlier with Unobtainium. That scandal left many wondering if it were indeed not possible for studio scale replicas to be mass produced in any manner of acceptable quality. How wary we were when MR announced their intentions to release there own version of the Enterprise. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be!

At least we who are Trek fans can, for now, expect more from MR. But it was a sad day when we learned there will be no more from the Star Wars end. After this year I expect any Star Wars item with the MR tag on it will only increase in value.

It is as though the MR X-wing is released as an encore to a magnificent performance. When the encore is finished we know the show is over. Once the X-wing is released that particular curtain closes.

As a Star Wars fan I would like to thank Master Replicas for this incredible product run, which began with Lucasfilm in 2002. It was short, but oh so sweet!

One of the rare ting MR did was involve model builders and painters outdside the company for accuaracy and continuity. They actually trusted us to guide changes and ensure accuracy I don't think you will ever see this again. There were lots of us involved in the X-wing and I'm sure some I didn't know about but Frank and Moe were on this again loaning their eyes and talents and this was the first and last studio scale model I got to paint master for MR I was mostly involed in Fett pieces before getting the oppotunity on this one. I got to chip in a few extra model pieces for the build but that was it. I hope this turns out to be a great encore piece.

Looks and sounds great. Glad to hear that the acrylic case/cover will be coming with it. Did MR ever get around to offering the acrylic covers for the Falcons?

Anybody good at painting figures is going to make a killing painting pilots when this gets released.

I hear the Icons pilot drops right in place.

Yes- and they aren't cheap! (Ususally $250-350) But a really good idea if you plonked down the cash for the model.

I agree with micdavis on the pilots by the by.

I can't believe the prices on some of the acrylic covers I've seen for the Falcon. I'm currently building a display case for my MR SS replicas. It's pretty large since it will be holding the Falcon, AT-AT, Snow Speeder, Y-Wing and a few smaller things like a Thermal Detonator, etc...

For the prices people are charging for acrylic covers I may just have to set up my acrylic workshop again. I still have my heat table and most of the tools.

I sure wish someone would offer us reasonable prices on display cases. I know I'd be in for several. I just shelled out 300 for the falcon cover and that was after price shopping for months. :(
