movies you like that everyone else hates

The most recent version of Evil Dead....

I didn't think it was that bad a movie honestly, it just wasn't the Evil Dead everyone was expecting it to be. haha

After peering into the abyss that is the Man of Steel and Batman/Superman threads, I'm going to say Man of Steel.

Yikes!

Except for the climactic battle taking up the last third of the movie, I liked Man of Steel quite a lot. But I feel as though I should qualify my opinion by stating I was always far more of a Batman fan than a Superman fan, and that I liked the 1950s television series Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves, but never really cared for the "Donner era" Superman movies (a.k.a. Superman-Superman IV)--Christopher Reeve was very good in the role, except for being far too thin, but everything else about those movies was horrible.

Christopher Reeve was very good in the role, except for being far too thin,

While I see where you're coming from on this front, in-universe his size doesn't matter. Due to the nature of Kryptonian powers under a yellow sun, the Kryptonian equivalent of Stephen Hawking would still be immensely powerful.

but everything else about those movies was horrible.

Well, it was a product of its era and definitely showed that through fashion, but you're forgetting one very important fact. Those movies gave us the quintessential Superman theme, amongst John Williams' finest work.

Mine are definitely Waterworld, Dodgeball, The Adventures of Mark Twain, and Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

If that were true he wouldn't have needed to be so muscular in the comic books either. Since the precedence of Superman having a large muscular physique was established there, it should have been more closely adhered to regardless of the "yellow sun" reconning. Reeve was clearly in shape without the need for the type of padding worn by his predecessor George Reeves, but he wasn't exactly in super shape. :D

You're right, I had forgotten about Williams' score. So, okay, except for Reeve's performance and Williams' score, everything else about them was horrible.

the remake of "Solaris" with George Clooney for nearly 10 years ago.

...

I positively LOVE Solaris! The original is quite cool as well, but I think the Clooney version is fantastic.

well it ought to be fairly obvious why you like it so much, given the screen shot you've selected for it. :rolleyes

Brotherhood of the Wolf

Another jewel! I absolutely love this one as well.

I loved the Fountain, but I can kind of understand why so few people tend to dislike it. It's a hard watch... although the visuals are beautiful, the themes can be difficult for some to cope with. I was a blubbering mess by the end of the movie and even my husband was upset.

I could just imagine someone being unprepared and watching it shortly after losing someone to cancer or something and being devestated by it.

I quite agree. My first time watching I was emotionally engaged but rather bewildered. I had trouble keeping straight what was going on. But upon my second viewing I seemed to "get it" much earlier on, and as a result I just fell right in love with it.

'Howard the Duck'

The other half tells me it's an appalling film. Mainly because of the lead character! But I think it's a charming 80s film and I always enjoy those.
