Movies you hate that everyone else likes

Deadpool, avatar, lord of the rings movies, all the Christopher Nolan movies, the shawshank redemption, pretty much all the Scorsese movies done after casino, clockwork orange, all the Guillermo Del Toro movies, All the Zack Snyder movies, Logan, Mad Max fury road, Big Lebowski, Dredd and many others...

Nolan Batmans. Theyre fine but certainly not what people hail them as. Over time excessive "Its not like Nolans movies Nolan did x, y and z better." I grew to hate them. Especially TDK. I used to love them but they are seen a s a Godsend and Nolan os seen a s the savior of Batman and really theyre just good Batman movies and hes just a great director.

Yeah, Interstellar didn’t do it for me. It should have, but it just kept missing the mark for me over and over.

Just about any movie made over the last 3 or 4 decades.
Wow, that's a lot of disappointment!
What about indie films or the smaller non-blockbuster films. Amelie, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moon, The Town, Arrival, Midnight Special are just a few of the smaller films I could think of.

Strangely enough the few movies I wasn't disappointed in were the new Star Wars movies as I actually liked them. I have not been to a movie theater since the late 80's so the only time I see a movie is when it is shown on cable or a streaming service. I have not seen any of the movies you mentioned nor have I had any inclination to see them, I don't know if that makes me ignorant of what is out there but there you go.

It just seems like you are intentionally cutting yourself from seeing some great films, limiting your experiences and potential enjoyment.
Totally your choice.

Taxi Driver: We watched it last night, my god that's a crappy film. Easily the worst acting I've seen De Niro do, the voice over was especially awful. It had a few cool camera shots but not enough to save it.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I don't understand the following behind this film. It's not De Niro's worst, but it's far from his best.

I think it's like a lot of movies that are made by young stylized directors like Scorsese was at the time or Kubrick. Hipster critics latch on to it because it's "edgy" and weird and violent and different and then everyone follows suit. Tarantino is another one I've never been into although I remember liking True Romance but it's been years since I've seen it so I might not even care for it if I watched it again.

Edit: I just double checked and it was Tony Scott that directed it. Now I know why I remember liking it:)

Twin Peaks: I never saw this during it's original run but a few years ago I moved to the North Bend WA area just as the sequel was being shot. We figured it would be fun to see familiar sites on a TV show and I enjoy a good mystery... it's bad, really BAD! The acting, pacing and dialogue was painful, my wife and daughter were done after the first episode but I insisted we try one more before I threw in the towel. Kyle MacLachlan was the only thing interesting about it.
I've found most of the 80s shows and films I enjoyed don't hold up to my adult scrutiny. Sometimes you just can't go back.

Twin Peaks ...

Twin peaks makes more sense to me, as to how it became popular, when I think of folks watching it as it first aired.

It seemed edgy. It seemed to have some dark element lurking at the edge of the story. It seemed primed for some straight up, off the rails, lovecraftian plot line.

It just never actually did any of those things. And, because of it, so many fans seem to have created their own rationale and story for what was "really" going on, that I don't think the directors or writers ever intended. I feel like the fans like their own creations based on the show, more than the show itself, but can't separate the two.

Twin Peaks is the show you get, when you go to make a show like Stranger Things, but forget to put in any of the ACTUAL supernatural happenings. At that point it's just people smoking to much, talking about coffee, and complaining about their day jobs.

Also, I tried to watch "Bad Boys" the other night, at someone's recommendation.

I can't do it. I don't have it in me.

Scrolled through a handful of pages here, but not all. Most all these movies I either love or just have never seen. Although, besides Star Wars, one of my favorate moves are Back to the Future, which is pretty much the only popular movies I didn't see anyone hating...good, don't hate those. One movie that I just never cared so much for, not really hated it, just didn't care was ET. But one movie I really didn't like that so many critics praise, is Citizens Kane. Took me 3 days to get through that movie.

I never saw Twin Peaks and have never been interested enough to even check it out. I was too young when it was released but even as an adult I see the name pop up a lot and I just gloss right over it.

I was never huge on ET. I enjoyed it, but it's not as seminal to me as it was to a lot of kids in the 80's.

Blade Runner is another one that I never really understood the appeal for. Visually it is impressive and Ridley Scott's cinematography is nearly always something to behold, but the story for Blade Runner never really interested me all that much. I remember wanting to see it as a kid because Harrison Ford was in it, and I was just beginning to recognize certain actors I liked and following their careers, but I just never got much into it. Even as an adult I find it kind of boring.

I loved Twin Peaks seasons 1 and 2. But I had to put my mind in a special state and just accept the weirdness and slowness as normal. The title music helped doing that: it set the pace when starting to see an episode. You can't see an episode after having fast-forwarded through the intro: you must listen to the music to slow yourself down.
I thought the movie and season 3 were awful though. Really awful.

Maybe the first two series worked for me because most episodes had not been written and directed by David Lynch, whereas he did all of the rest.

Twin Peaks certainly isn't for everybody, but Season 2, FWIM & Season 3 all absolutely get into ACTUAL supernatural happenings, albeit of the oblique Lynchian kind.

Friday the 13th:
I have no idea what redeeming quality this "movie" has aside from Kevin Bacon's death scene. Hadn't seen it in about 35 years but the kid wanted to know why Jason wears a hockey mask. Turns out he doesn't!
Freddy Kruger has officially become the least ridiculous 80s horror icon in my book. (and he's plenty ridiculous! ;))
