Morrowind glass axe help

I'm currently gathering materials to make a daedric suit of armor, but I'd really like a glass war axe to go with it. It's my favorite weapon from any game. I'm pretty good with thermoplastics and that's what I intend on making the armor out of. However, as far as I know, there aren't any thermoplastics that dry clear. I would need something that is at least opaque. Here's the picture, by the way:

I realize that I will most likely have to give up on my thermoplastics fetish on this one, but I don't even know what else I could use. I considered buying sheets of clear plastic and doing a pepakura type setup, but I feel like it wouldn't be very durable, even if I did. Someone help, please!

I am by no means an expert propsmith, but I BELIEVE there are resins that will dry clear, and can have pigment mixed in. What you could do is mold the parts you want clear, cast them in clear resin, and then assemble the axe around it. That should at least work for the head and spikes. I wish I could give specifics, but I hope this helps.

But making molds is scary :( .. I've already done a lot of damage to my apartment with my prop making. I can only imagine what my landlady would say if I dropped a glob of resin on the floor.

What little work I've done has been in a friend's garage workshop, but that could probably be taken care of by laying down a layer of cardboard, and then some kind of large plastic tarp. And then newspaper or whatever over whatever table you use. It's all about preparation.

I'm honestly not sure where to start. Should I buy a starter kit? Would my money be better spent on getting more specific, hard to find items? What is the best resin for this type of project? It's all very overwhelming :(

Unfortunately that is all of the info I have, but I would start by planning out how you would fit it all together. Perhaps have the axe blade connected to the spikes as a large clear piece, with plastic fittings over that, with room for whatever core you have for the handle passing through the middle? Or just make the entire thing out of opaque plastic, cut off the large crystal pieces, mold/cast those with additional length so that they can be fitted snugly into the original? Like I said all of this is theory and there is PROBABLY a better way to do it. But this is just what comes to mind.
