Hi everybody,

Just started to build my first foam stuff. I saw Gibbtalls thread and started to see what I can do. So thanks to Gibbtall.

Btw. Did the same mistake with the front part

First "helmet":

Thats it so far, not 100%, not super build but 100% proud ...

Will update in the next days.

Looking great! As for the colour, I figured that they were kind of bronze covered in years of grime. For my helmet I sprayed it in gold then rubbed blue, black, brown and red over it to build up the layer of grime.

Bronze usually age into a dark brown color with greenish patina. The armors in the movie have the grayish look of steel with the typical light brown patina in spots. Considering the fact that dwarves were master blacksmiths (even knowing how to work with mithril), it would make more sense for them to make armors out of steel when they're already making weapons out of steel.

I agree with you that steel would make more sense, but going off of shots from the movie, I I feel like the gold/bronze method gives a finish closer to the movie's.

I'm planning on using a hammered silver first, then various shades of brown washes, maybe a bronze one too and then finish with a black wash. I'll try it on a separate piece before doing it on the armor.

Thanks for your ideas.
I will try some of your ideas and decide what looks best to me.
I did some details on the helmet, added some lines on the front and did the lower part around the helmet.uploadfromtaptalk1397159139023.jpguploadfromtaptalk1397159155769.jpg

Small update. I did some more details and hope to do the runes over the weekend.
I am really looking forward to do some colour on the helmet.

That's looking great so far.

What just struck me is how similar the moria helmet and erebor helmet are, despite the 10 year gap between films. It's a nice touch by the designers.
