A while ago, I was watching the opening scenes of The Train Job, and started to wonder what all that junk was on the walls:

Through a rather roundabout way, I've found out that this stuff appears to be several different styles of Chinese paper, used for good luck and funeary offerings.

You're going to love this — It's called joss paper.

You can find it for sale online, and I've been able to match two of the common designs to stuff I've seen on the web.

Example:

So, for anyone who wants to decorate your Firefly displays / areas, you can now stick this on your wall.

Here's my set:

For an idea of scale, the yellow and red flowery thingies are about five inches across.

I purchased it online for $4.60 total. A Goole search for "joss paper" will show you as many sites as you want.

Happy hunting.

Thanks for the find Mike, a good call on those joss papers. Is it my eyes or does one of the papers seems to have a person on it.

Yeah, one seems to have a print of a woman on it — haven't found that anywhere online.

But not Joss as in (Whedon), joss being the Chinese word for "luck"

"Joss" isn't Whedon's real name-- it's Joseph. He started calling himself Joss in college because he liked the connotation of the word.
