Molds, ownership, and casting.

Hypocritical or not, it has worked for this group for over ten years.
If you disagree, start your own group.

Disagree to what? I didn't say I disagree with the forum, otherwise I wouldn't be a member here! I just said that these are the rules to this forum, and I abide by them, hypocritcal,or not! If I have the chance to buy a model from someone else-I will! I'm not recasting someone elses' work, but buying it from someone else who did. I said I wouldn't recast it,I didn't say I wouldn't buy it! I'm not interested in buying for the sake of accuracy, but to have a model that isn't made anymore, and I'm interested in building! No need for harsh language,or comments about this subject,or anyone on this forum! I have other projects that I'm working on right now,and I don't have the time to start another build. I would be interested in building this, but it isn't the entire refinery! So,I'll have to pass on this one! I hope this clears things up for you!

Bold added by me.

You called the rules of this forum hypocritical. I believe they are not.

I have not used harsh language, and will comment on what I like, when I like within the confines of the rules. :)

NO-I didn't say they were hypocitical. I said hypocritical,or not! I didn't mean you using harsh langauge,or comments,I meant by me! Don't be pissed off at me for saying that! You can say whatever you like! I won't stop you! I'm just reiterating what other people have already said! Thanks for saying that anyway,I hope that this will help others understand where I'm coming from!:)

Here is my view on the rules of the forum regarding recasting other members work.
I believe the rules are really there in an attempt to protect all our members from being ripped off by other members stealing their work.
Our members on the whole have little to no legal protection on the props they might make available to other members, they don't own the rights to the pieces and are unlicensed.
The rule is just there to basically say if you steal from another member you're not welcome around here.
This is really all we can do as a community to protect ourselves and eachother in some small way.
We can't stop someone recasting but we can make sure they don't use this forum as a platform to sell or buy stuff.

Studios on the other hand have legal teams if they feel their work has been stolen they will let the legal hounds loose, they know what goes on here and other forums like it and they allow it to a certain extent.
If something they own is being reproduced in small numbers they let it slide, if someone sets up a business selling their property though you can bet your life they will take action and rightly so.

Understood, and I agree. I think someone else on here asked the question,"what if one of the original casters of the prop(s) we recast became a member here-wouldn't that be recasting another members work?" This is why I said I have no interest in recasting. Whether the rules here allow it,or not! I wasn't trying to piss off any of the members on this board! I just agree to the RPF rules, and that's the point I'm trying to make! :$ Thanks!

I have resources that allow me to make my own,and still be 100% accurate to the original without recasting!

These kinds of remarks make me lose faith in the communities ability to understand the concept of "100% accurate to the original".

.

No, there isn't.
MAYBE, for some machined parts (people still always tend to screw some aspect up even when they have the real part in hand).

For originally sculpted pieces, there is no way to replicate them EXACTLY without recasting. PERIOD.
ONLY a direct silicone molding and cast will produce a facsimile.

If that person made castings available and those casts were later copied by someone else they would be banned.

If someone gains access to an original cast via the backdoor of a studio or via auction or private sale they won't.

We do have members here who have and do sculpt/build production originals, what you have to consider is that they do not own these properties they belong to the studio the sculpter/propmaker is working for.

In the first case its a member stealing from a fellow member who has no legal recourse, nobody is going to protect their interests other than us as a community looking after eachother.

In the second case it's someone stealing from the studio and they do have legal rights and the ability to enforce them if they wish.

Yes,with SCULPTED the only way is casting,or recasting a proper version, but I'm not speaking of a sculpture.
I don't think anyone knows what you're speaking of. :lol Newbie, you need to be clearer in your posts if anyone is to understand you.

GINO is correct. (I never thought I'd say that )

I guess I can't keep up with this crowd.
Newbie, I mean't what I posted. It's hard to catch your meaning in a lot of your posts.
slow down, and skim your post before you hit submit on it.

And the award for most posts from a new member in their first month goes to.... newbie doobie lol

This is fun!
I think I understand a litte more clearly now.
It's ok to rip off a studio but not an individual prop member.
I'm cool with that if it's cool with you guys?
Who needs real ethics anyway! LOL.
I guess we wouldn't be doing this without this unwritten law.
