MOEBIUS BSG75 BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Reimagined 2003 Series)

Started this a few weeks ago. Interior light blocked. Glued engines to upper and lower hull and did initial engine light test. The blue LEDs are the flickering type. Mounted red LEDs to the hangar bay cutouts. I'm further ahead on the build than what these pictures show. I just have to take some current pictures and post them.

These pictures bring the build up to date. I have to install the Fiber optics in the front lower section and to the sides of the lower hull. Once done then it will be sealed up ready for primer. I decided on 2 colors for the hangar bay lighting. White and red to give the inside some interest. It looks much better in person than the pictures. I still have to put the hangar bay floor decals on and close that up.

I used Alclad II

First I started with a dark gray primer then I sprayed Alclad II Aluminum over most of the ship. I then mixed Alclad II Jet Exhaust (2 parts) with Alclad II White Aluminum (1/2 part) to get the dark gray with a hint of metallic in it and sprayed that in the rib and recessed areas. I then taped off all the rib sections and re-sprayed with the White Aluminum to bring out all the rib edges and the plating. I plan on spraying some of the plating/panels a few slightly darker shades to bring out more detail then a dark wash in all the panel lines.

Still have to do the lower hull and the hangar bays

I love the dark metallic look!

What paints did you use?

Everytime I see good metallics it always seems to be the Alclad stuff. I really need to try it

How is the durability of it in regards to masking over it?

All the masking I did was over the Alclad mix of burnt iron and white aluminum which I sprayed about 6 hours after I sprayed on the primer coat. I did the taping the following morning and nothing lifted using the Tamiya tape so I think it's pretty durable in that respect. I usually wait a day between spraying but it was the weekend and I had the time. Lacquer paints usually dry fast and I have done this before with no issues. If it was acrylic or any other type of paint there would have been a much higher chance of lifting because it wasn't left to dry properly.

Top rib section done. Still have to do color variations on the hull plating with some darker Alclad II colors. I'm leaning towards Alclad Dark Aluminum and Duraluminum. They are both several shades darker than the Aluminum which should give it some nice detail along with a dark grey wash in the panel lines.

I also have to highlight the back top section and bring out the detail.

Lots of taping for the bottom hull rib sections. Have to do this in sections. Just takes too long to tape all at once.

I wasn't planning on doing all this taping but I quickly found out in order to get this look it has to be done

More taping of the bottom section ribs. Still have to do the engines and the mechanicals between the engines on the top and bottom sections.

Wow, the tape work really pays off, this looks awesome!

I remember when I was a little kid, my mom and I built* an F-86 Super Sabre, and when it came to painting she carefully applied all this tape.
I asked her why - I couldn't see the point of it - and she said "to paint straight lines".
I think I still haven't learnt that lesson, but you are teaching me heaps right here.

* Well, technically she built it all. I just watched.

Thanks for the compliments!!

OMG The taping on this has been crazy. Been doing a few sections every night for almost a week. I have 2 mm tape but its a little too small between the ribs so I had to cut strips slightly over 2mm so that's making it more time consuming. I'm glad I'm almost done with all this taping and can put the Fiber optics in and glue it together. I should be done with all this taping by the weekend. I still have to tape up the ribs for the hangar bays but that will be at the end.

More updates.........

Not sure I like this new setup. Doesn't allow you to see the pictures. Makes it difficult to write description above each one if you only see the link

Also not sure how to sort view to show last post first?

The site looks like all the rest of them. Plain vanilla IMO.

The dark them rocked with Sci-Fi movies picture scrolling at the top

I love the different contrasts in metals. Also the red stripes look perfect

As far as the new site, the dark theme was much better, also not too hot on the ads in the middle of peoples posts, but then again I do like some of the newer features.

Also, I find using the preview option a nice way to see your pictures in order to add text

I love how it looks with the tape! What colors are you using?

I used Alclad Aluminum for the silver rib edges and for the majority of the hull plating. I mixed and lacquer medium gray with Alcald Dark Aluminum to paint some of the individual square plating and engine tips. I mixed Alclad Jet Exhaust with Alclad Dark Aluminum for the ribs.
