MOEBIUS BATTLESTAR PEGASUS (Reimagined 2003 Series)

Started the 8 engines for the Pegasus build. All light blocked inside the engines. Mounted the engine LEDs which will be blue. I will be using a special power-up and pulsing effect board from TenaControls. There are 7 drilled holes for fiber optics in each engine which will be cool white. Hard to see those holes. Cutout a center slot which will show a mix of white and blue. Still have to cover the back of the slot with a diffusing plastic sheet. Will do that after outside of the engines is primed. Going to do as much painting as possible before I install the FO.

This is going to be a long build. There are many more lighting points on this model than the both the TOS and BSG75 Galcatica's combined. I think the painting will be a little easier than the BSG75 but the lighting will be a challenge especially in the trench area along the center on top of the head that gets lit and the 4 hangar bays. I'm hoping to get this done in 3 months in time for RepLIcon 29 in May so I can bring all 3 BSG models.

Your sure right about the lighting. I was starting on my Galactica and Pegasus looking over reference stuff and lighting this like the CGI images will sure be a challenge.

I was looking into the possibility of using the "Raytheon effect" to get simulate some of the spot lighting stuff

Let’s talk RAYTHEON!!!

I was thinking that too...... not sure if it will shine through silver paint well enough to see. Metallic paint has good light blocking qualities. I did the Raytheon effect on my Polar Lights 1/350 Enterprise Refit on the Nacelles to light up the "Enterprise" decal towards the back and it was fine but not very bright through white paint. It enough to see the effect. The Refit model is white plastic and I used no primer inside or outside on those areas just white paint.

Light blocking middle section and wiring the engines:

Test lighting on the sides of hanger bay, head, front & Logo with super small 0402 SMD. The camera overexposed the pictures of the lights. They are much dimmer and look very close to the way it show in the series. Nothing is light block or painted so it should look real good when that is all done. Lighting on this ship is going to be a tribrid mix of ambient lighting, Fiber optics and at least 50 super small 0402 SMDs. Currently I only have (6) 0402 SMD to work with for these tests. 100 are on order.

More light blocking:

Wired and primed the landing bays. Glued on the photetched emblem and other odds and ends. Going to be laying the decals for the landing bays and then closing them up.

Cutout the slots on both sides of the trench for the photo-etch and finished up clear coating the landing bays. Going to be installing the rest of the fiber optics, 0402 SMDs and then start to close up sections starting with the landing bays.

What a nice color choice. Alclad?

Yes...spot on!!

I first sprayed Alclad Duraluminum over the dark gray primer and I thought it was too light and silvery. So I took Alclad Magnesium and thinned it 50/50 and lightly sprayed it over the dark aluminum and got this darker shade.

Inside the ribbed areas and the recesses on the head is Alclad Steel

Thanks for the compliments!!

Closing up ship....Assembled the bays to the lower hull

Engines will go on tonight. I will start connecting all the lines and hopefully by the weekend will join the top with the bottom.

Joined both halves. I will have some pictures tomorrow.

Very little work and touch-up to do on the seam.

Next Up:
Connect all the wiring,
Decals,
Dark wash for panel lines and recessed areas,
Clear coat
Lastly mounting the guns.

I will also be working on the base this week and next.
