Moebius 1/6 Lost in Space Robot B-9 — Build in progress

Here’s another one that sat in the stash while I amassed parts. I’ve decided not to light it as it’s a fiddly and expensive job to do it right, but I have the seamless glass dome and the Paragrafix photoetch kit so he’ll sport some mods.

So far, lots of dry-fitting and gluing of sub assemblies. I’m so used to Japanese kits recently it’s a shock going back to western kits... The seams on the feet are a bit nasty.

I wasn’t impressed by the flimsy plastic shaft that held the head in place so had a root around in my bits boxes. After fiddling with some brass rod for a while, I settled on a washer and a long screw that’s made to bolt a guitar neck to its body, which here goes all the way through the neck assembly and finds home in a piece of scrap hardwood. Solid as a rock.

He’s going to be a big fella! I’ve finally got an extension lead for the shed so I’ll be airbrushing for the first time in a while.

Coming along! First coat of primer and another test fit. Those seams in the feet are horrible. Milliput next...

The moulding isn’t the best. Some of the sharp lines could be sharper. The chest opening is particularly rough. I’m going to run something through the legs for added strength and glue the articulated torso as there are some definite weak parts. But overall it’s still a good, if not perfect, kit.

The Paragrafix photo etch crown is assembled and looks pretty good. I’ve ignored the assembly instructions and glued all the main torso parts together as they don’t fit together well enough to ensure a clean job if assembled painted. This will mean some carefully planned work done through the various holes.

This is a rely nice kit to build, I enjoyed fitting the lights to it.

I’ve avoided the lighting as I don’t have the supplies for such a delicate job and the cost would rocket, but the reason this sat in the stash was the intention to do that. It is a fun build indeed — it’s just a shame those feet weren’t made in more parts for an easier clean-up job and there aren’t pegs on the top and bottom torso parts. Those small changes would have made this a breeze.

I agree as I remember the foot section was the least enjoyable part of building the kit.

I agree that the seams on the feet were nasty, i used 0.10" Evergreen Sheet #9010 to "skin" over the seam, it made the job much easier..... I loved this kit, IMHO I think Moebius did a fantastic job, it's one of my favorite. I can't wait for more pictures, nice work so far.
