Modelmaking Degree Final Year Project [HALO CQB Armour)

Neil
I cant help but keep coming back to this thread. Simply amazing. Between you and TMP Ive seen and marveled at some simply beautiful work. They shouldnt give you an 'A'...they should give you a JOB.

I've been on the boards for sometime know and that is by far the BEST piece I've seen and I'm not a Halo fan but makes me want to be one... Congrats and it looks great!!!

Holy Crap!

...and I thought that your hot rod project was cool! Mindblowing work....really incredible!!!

First, thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and ask questions about this project. It was a real confidence booster. I got my grade back last week and I got an A1! :thumbsup

I am now working on this, my final piece of work for the course. It is for a film. It will eventually be cast in silicone with glass eyes, punched hair and an articulated neck:

Gotta get some make-up fx in my portfolio.

Cheers

:confused

That is a really cool original sculpt. I cant wait to see it finished! :thumbsup

I can only repeat what others have said here; that is just about the most beautiful armor I have seen! Primarily because it is a "one off" and not a design that has been done over and over again :thumbsup

As far as the "feminine" appearance to it? Personally, I can absolutely picture say, Milla Jovovich wearing that in the live action movie if it were to happen... Heck, she kicked arse in a white spandex and orange rubber in Fifth Element, after all... :love

Alas, and not following Halo as much as others, I surfed about a live action movie and saw this... :confused

I hadda feeling as soon as I saw Fox was involved; Just like every TV show that gained a following of fans and was subsequently cancelled, IMHO, they're doing it again with this supposed "in production" movie adaptation...

Dunno how it's gonna go, but hey, maybe ask your Professor or Institute to show them your project? Imagine the Uber-Coolness Factor of seeing your course project used in a big screen film...

And you keep telling me you can't sculpt :lol Neil that looks great! Did you work from a lifecast or is this from scratch? Looks like another A1 in the making and congrats on your Halo grade.

Steve.

Congrats on the grade mate, it is well deserved! I get a kick out of every pic you post! Loving the new piece too, please keep us posted!

Cheers guys!

Alas, the new piece is based on a life cast and not a sculpt. Although I used life casting silicone, and it was horrible. I might as well have sculpted it considering the amount of clean-up I had to do.

gunerk,
Yep, it's a shame that a HALO movie might never be. I'm not entirely sure what they could have done with the franchise, but it might have been interesting at least.

I just wanted to add to the hundred or so other post and say that armor is kick major a$s!

But my question is where does one go to get a degree in model making, I must have missed other talk on this. Not that I have that kind of talent but it's interesting that you can go to school for such things.

WOW ! Great suit, I love that helmet. Makes me want to find away to add this to the way to many costumes I allread have !

Thanks :)

obi1henny,
As far as I am aware, you can do a degree in model making in the US, but I believe it is purely industrial/automotive/architectural focussed.

I am in the UK. There are a handful of universities around the south east that have model making degrees. Mine is probably 50% film/tv based, with some architectural, educational, automotive, product etc making up the other half.

You are free to focus of whichever discipline/s you want. Although the collector's market is frowned upon by the tutors..pretty ironic..it's a healthy industry.

I am considering a part-time model design masters, focusing on film theory. Not sure yet.

Here I am fitting the armour to a volunteer. He was really up for messing around in the suit but was a couple of inches too short and his thighs were too thick for the armour (it was trimmed to the mannequin's measurements remember):

I am 6'4" and thin. I'll wear it for you. Heck, I'd be thrilled to be in the same room as that suit. It's so clean that I thought the pictures in your first post were CG. You should get a trophy along with your diploma for this.

Neil,

Wow, that's one of the most impressive suits I've ever seen. The details are so sharp. Your grade was well earned.
