Not a big Halo fan myself, or gamer for that matter, but I gotta say that is some awsome work. WWish they allowed us to do stuff that big when I was going to school. Yes I did th whole school thing for model making as well. Did mine in the states though. I think someone asked somewhat rhetorically if you could go to school for model making. Yep. I wnt to a school in Bemidji, Minnesota. If you can stand the cold, its a great place to learn.

Tell me again where you purchase the foam you used to sculpt the suit. Now wait - you sculpted this by hand? How do you get such straight edges.

I have to know...ha ha.

Thanks

That has got to be the absolute most gorgeous thing I have ever seen.
Forgive me if you've already covered this, but was it all hand sculpted?

This is sick! Awesome work! Nice way to go, for a Final Year Project! You have mad skills bro!

Stay safe,

Tim.

No need to echo what others said (but I will - nice job!)

But, how about using those MAD skills you have and making a little more manly mannequin to display that bad-a$$ armor on? ;)

Or, better yet, send it to me, so I'll wear it all the day (so you don't need a mannequin for that)...:D

I've been coming here a long time now, and even did a bit of moderating a few years back. (Almost drove me insane :lol) It was undoubtedly the RPF that set me on my journey to work as a modelmaker/prop builder. The knowledge, criticism and encouragement that this community offers means a lot. Thanks everyone!

Some more pics for you:

Here is the armour off the mannequin:

Here is a base I made yesterday from MDF and acrylic and a rubber mat:

Stormy320,
Here is where I got my board from:

http://www.ambercomposites.co.uk/Too...ooling_01.html

It is the 0.14 density light green Styling Board I believe. An 8' x 4' x 4" block cost me about £220. But the tax and delivery knocked it over £300, that's $600ish. I made ALL the formers from this block and still have some useful 'bricks' left over.

www.generalplastics.com have something called 'LAST-A-FOAM' which might be worth getting a sample of. They sell 8' x 4' x 4" blocks from $328 - $1,116 depending on density.

The lines were cut with a scalpel and then material was removed up to the cut by files to create a nice edge.

Javamonkey,
I broke the foot on the mannequin today, so I'll by a more masculine mannequin for my end of year show. :)

Badd Blood,
Yep all hand carved with surforms and files mainly.

TMP,
Just about to Pm you back!

Cheers
Neil

Neil!!!!

What more can I say?! Your work is OUTSTANDING on this incredible costume. Hard to believe we relied on other people to do this sort of thing for us a few years ago. You should get a FIRST with that amazing piece of work. Great to see you standing proudly next to it too.

Let us know how it goes mate!

Chris

yes, this is very awesome. I think the hip sticking out does make it appear... girlish. But I still am at a loss of words as for it's awesomeness.

:wacko Lost for words, and I am sure you are gonna get flying colours for your project! Good luck... not sure if you need it for this already awesome achievement.

Look forward to another talent in the prop world.:love

Peace

Hi Chris, Great to hear from you mate. Thanks. Drop me a line when you get a mo, I've lost your number!!

MjolnirArmor, You are right, it is the outward hip that does it. :)

Carl, You should! It's fun to work with.

Here I am fitting the armour to a volunteer. He was really up for messing around in the suit but was a couple of inches too short and his thighs were too thick for the armour (it was trimmed to the mannequin's measurements remember):

Because of the height issues I didn't bother photographing the legs, they looked wrong, but I got some OK upper body shots. I quickly blacked-out the non-military issue under garments:

What color/type of paint did you use for the green? That shade looks really good for MC armor.

I had 4 large cans mixed up to match a swatch I had made using Tamiya AS-6 USAF Olive Drab. I got the mixers to double up on matting agent.

Firearms and bladed weapons are still frowned upon on the course. I made them in my kitchen and smuggled them in a couple of weeks ago on the bus. :love
I probably won't put the assault rifle out at my show.
