MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *Finished pics pg 5*

Re: MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *Pauldrons Added

Today was stressfully productive work day, filled with clients not paying and having the audacity to say that I'm pestering them (2 emails in 1 month :confused) when they have owed me $200 for a month:angry:angry, however the good news is I have new clients on the way:),anyways, sorry guys had to vent a little on. ON TO THE BUILD!

Yesterday I stopped by the print shop I do freelance work for and my good buddy Larry gave me a 4x8 sheet of Sintra fo' freee!!:) After all of above mentioned, I finally got around to cutting these out and bending them into shape little. Still need to fix the peck plates, i need them to curve abit more. The ab plates came pretty good i think. just need to get more detail in them, that will come after i get all of the plates cut and bent.

What do ya'll think?

Re: MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *Ab Plates Added

Fiance' is crashed out so I crepped:ninja out to the shop and added a crease to the middle of the ab plates where the line was in my previous pic. Looks waaaaay better! Now I need to trim and sand around the edges to smooth them out.

Re: MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *Ab Plates Updated

Thanks to sakins screens, I decided to redo the chest piece. It came out 100% better that the others I had and now I have a couple back plates too,I also started on the foam that's under the chest plate and wraps around the back aswell. I made the the lower back plates aswell and bend the groove in to them. Ill pop rivet elastic behind the ab and lower back plates so they have plenty of flex when i bend and do ninja back flips. After I add the details to the foam parts I plan on wrapping them in black cloth so they have a nice cloth texture.:thumbsup

The idea has been tossed around, to skin the sintra with a faux leather, then coating that with a dull metallic paint. The texture would be nice but I dunnooooo .

Here are some pics of progress. Tomorrow after I mold a couple masks, I'll get back to work on this and cut some detail in the foam piece.

Re: MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *chest plate Updated

Looks good and now from what I can tell I thought they were rivets, but look more like divets, unless you still want the rivets I think they would give it a better look. Tempted to say I want your old parts for my sit if I decide to get started on it. This has me really tempted.

Vagabond, i can send you what templates I make when I finish,no prob. About the rivets, I agree with you about the divits. Studs would look better imo. A local friend that does costuming, offered me plastic studs that I can paint silver glue on. He also offered to give me enough leather to skin all of my hard parts.

good start.. i like where ur goin with this...
Thanks, more updates tonight.

Ok in between coats of rebound 25, I managed to get alot done on the torso area. Next is the gauntlets... :confused

Excuse the duct tape, using it to mock everything up.

This is looking great. One thing to try on a some extra sheet material there. Its called Rub n Buff, comes in a few metallics. Just rub it on until it flakes of like leafing. works great for the metal look. Also a clear coat then 600 grit sandpaper give it an aged metal look, then another clear coat of course. Looking at the pics posted it would look really close to that. Good luck the rest of the way.

Thank you again sakin for the screenshots!

Thanks for posting this! I'm definitely going to check out run n buff. So far that sounds like the right route to follow.

Thanks again for the tips. Very helpful.

Those shins and gauntlets look like they could be fun scratchbuilding.

Just finished the template for the gauntlets. 6 Individual segments that seat into one another. Ill post pics of the templates tomorrow. Still need to diva couple things to them

Leather is for sure an option. My friend is donating some materials to me and i still need to swing by his house, raid his stuff and see exactly what he has. All else fails, I can use the ninja top that comes with the suit set. I think the sleeves would be long enough and wide enough to cover the tabards and the rest of it would cover the skirt looking piece that goes around. Just an idea

Re: MK9 Smoke Costume WIP *chest plate Updated

i personally cut the sintra with a bandsaw, and use a heat gun on small areas at a time, to gradually shape things to the perfect shape.

also i tend to find i need to consider the eventual shape when working with the stuff, if there is a large curve it's almost better to build things like you see pepakura plans, heat, bend and join edges together, then glue them with super glue and gap fill with epoxie or bondo.
