Mk III Baker Sonic Kit Build - Thread

Thanks guys. ^_^ It comes from being an OCD XD I still plan to age the halo up a bit by chipping the paint but I think I'm going to add a few more coats first.

Funny thing by-the -by, I was looking at DVD footage of the recent US release of the Android Invasion and when I looked at the emitter halo, under the red paint it appeared that the halo was made out of brass. Remember Wazoo when there was an episode where the halo was brass with no paint? I'm starting to wonder if they just hacked off bits of brass tube to make the emitters.

Considering how rough Tom Baker and some co-stars (basement scene in City of Death anyone?) were on the prop I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't go through a half dozen heads a story.

The freaking double post syndrome strikes!

Yes, I'm just wondering how many were actually brass. I seem to recall seeing brass under red paint elsewhere too. I'm thinking sometime I may want to invest in some brass tube in a 3/4 inch range for some tests.

Yeah I seen that as well but as I could not fined anyone talking about it I thought that it may have been gold paint. but a brass halo oh that would be nice, I have brass rod that size to, will see what is looks like this weekend.

Honestly I am thinking it was always brass on the show. In all of the scenes where you can see the paint worn through it is always brass (or copper, could have just been a cut piece of 3/4 pipe :lol). That would allow you to silver solder in the pins that hold the center piece.

Nice work on the kit build Straker, it looks awesome.

It's Straker with an A. XD but yes, I was also thinking it might always have been brass. And you're right, it means once the pins are in place, you could just solder them to the ring and it wouldn't go anywhere. It would probably be pretty solid too and i think paint sticks to brass easier as well.

Hell Rassilon, if we have you switch to brass that would be a slick update to your sonic. I ALMOST hate to ask but you think you could build another of the emitters you made me with a brass ring? I'd love to try soldering one together. and see how it turns out. ^_^

EDIT: Stupid frigging network is double posting on me! XP

Oh and thanks. I'm glad you guys like how it's turning out. ^_^

Yeah will have a look into that over the weekend, and you keep making the purchase orders Straker and I will be able to send my 5 kid though collage, and pay of the house :lol

That's fine, just remember to save me a Tennant sonic so i can try that one as well. I really want to see what I can do with it.

Sorry about that, anything I don't cut an past I spell wrong :facepalm.

Your not as bad as me, phez :cry

Just working on an assembly manual for the RCTS now, but only half way though it, and need more photo's of the assembly part of the build manual.

lol, it's alright, it happens often, and most times it happens when people say it out loud even AFTER I say it for them to hear so it happens. XD

Sounds good. I wanna try the cracked glaze method on it for sure and try wiring it for light. I know it's not all one hundred percent accurate but it's still really nice, with great quality and some amazing innovations like that brass insert sleeve for the grip. I'm really curious to see if a piece of EL paper could be put inside the grip behind the read out.

Nether is the is the CO toy version and it sells by the 100.
The brass sleeve has a .5mm recess machined into the surface so as long as it is not thicker than .5mm you can.

The reason for the recess is so when you slide it into the grip, you wont scratch the painted surface, when you paint it blue.
