MJ Viper progress

Here is my MJ Viper progress.

I have used a Harrier pilot for my pilot instead of the Viper pilot.
The Harrier pilot has been really cut down to fit the cockpit like the Viper pilot, a face mask has also been added to it.

I have added the canopy slide rails and Pylon cap on the top infornt of the canopy.
I also added the additional scribing on the sides.
The flash kind of washed the detail away, sorry.

I decided to paint it white and let the weathering process to get to look grey. To me they look like they were painted white and then weatherd like the SS X-wings.

LMK what you think,
Lynn

Cool. It really looks great, I'm sure the X-wing paint/weathring style will work great. I'm no expert on the Galactica models but werent they made by many of the same dudes that made the ANH models.? If so one could assume that they were weathered with the same techniques.

Cool to see that you're making good use of the 1:24 Harrier pilot. I'm actually using him too on my current ss X-wing build up. On this one I'm making a studio accurate pilot instead of the Luke figure which is surplied with the kit.

Looking forward to see more of your progress, good luck.

Steve.

Thanks Steve..
Yeah, I think the same guys did the same model building if I read it right some place, so it would make sence they would use the same techniques and possibly the same colors.

Are you telling me I need to add a Harrier pilot to my SS red leader??? ;)

Is this an SS build for you, or another job? You need to build one for yourself before you get burnt out.. :lol

The Harrier pilot looks kick butt in the viper cockpit..

I'll post better pics in a bit.

Can you show me more detail of the canopy rails you installed?

Sure... Here you go.
The real prop...

My conversion....

I think I used 1/6" half round styrene stock for the rails and 40 mil. styrene for the pylon cover plate.

***PLEASE NOTE*** The canopy is not fully in place and is just set there for the pic and you can see a gap in between the one rail and canopy, it is not there when it is fully seated.

I started the weathering with a light misting of grey as you can see it is no longer white. :)

Lynn

Thanks. I was going to add that detail but decided against it. Now that I've seen yours, I may just retrofit it to my Viper.

Yes, I'm FINALLY making something for my own collection. :) I think I read somewhere that the Harrier pilot was used with the real X-wing models. I have pics of Red-2 (the one I'm making) and the pilot looks really close to the Harrier pilot, a custom helmet has been added though, looks nothing like the helmet used by the actors.

Steve.

It is about time Steve.. :lol ;)
Now you gotta repaint your AT-AT while your at it. ;)

I'm seriously thinking of selling or trading my TE Sandtrooper armor to get a MR AT-AT.

My Viper is now all decaled and letting them dry.

Looks really good but why change the pilot?

The viper pilot is great, but I want mine to look like the real SS models and a Harrier pilot is what they used.

Jesse

Just wanted to let you know that my build-up arrived, and it's fantastic. The weathering you did is perfect - not too excessive, but enough to indicate "carbon scoring" and suggestive of insanely rapid flight through exotic atmospheres. I love the cockpit detail, and the Viper pilot. Thanks to your excellent packing job the Customs monkeys were unable to inflict any damage. It's a gorgeous kit.

Can't wait for my Raider.

I'll get more soon. I just have a little more weathering, do the cockpit, pilot, and finish the stand.

This has been painted gloss white misted with just a touch of gray, hit heavly with pastel chalk, some black misting, a little black and rust wash on the engines and pipe area, some black wash streaking.

I still have some more weathering to do behind the guns, the flash showed I didn't weather it enough.

Keep in mind, this has been painted to be a SS prop and not an idealized Viper with perfact weathering placement with scratchs, nicks, sooty weathering where it is supposed to be and perfact detailing.

It is painted to be a prop, not a show winning model, I got my Revel Viper for that.. :D
I hope you like it.

Well, hereÂ’s my contribution to the Viper world right now. I am also still in the process of finding a few minutes to spare to finish off the photo comparison of JesseÂ’s viper and the MiM kit. Sorry itÂ’s taken so long Jesse, but IÂ’ll add it in ASAP.

As always, get these while you can, no guarantee that theyÂ’ll still be hosted in a month.

First up, Starbucks Viper as seen on Pilot. These are mostly Starbuck on approach with damage (around 19 minutes in my copy) or the ones with underside views and turbo are later in the fight over Caralon. Good shots of Starbucks weathering and all of the ships marking (note underside markings and grey band around nose, and lack of grey paneling). Also, note that there is some detail near the “canopy rails” that shows up but not very clearly.

These are a “generic” viper in the launch tube, shows just how truly “white” the viper is under the right lighting. Your looks GREAT Lynn. This is around 30 minutes in on my copy.
